Communicate sensitive and/or contentious information to Pan GM Medicines Optimisation team members that you line manage during 1:1s, PDRs, and other meetings. For example, discussions around poor performance or poor attendance or changes to the structure of the team. Communicate with empathy and tact towards team members, e.g., during sickness absence discussions and/or return to work interviews. Use negotiation, persuasion, reassurance, and motivational skills to ensure all the medicines optimisation teams engage with the medicines optimisation operational plans despite barriers to acceptance such as workload or a change in method.

Communicate highly complex and highly sensitive information to Providers about performing against budgets, standards, and targets, and relating to their patterns of prescribing in a manner that is understandable, meaningful, and usable. This may include managing difficult situations with colleagues who are upset or expressing challenging behaviour. Provide advice to Providers interpreting information on prescribing and performing issues to support national and local initiatives including quality improvement plans. Provide customised feedback to Providers on progress with medicines optimisation initiatives, prescribing targets, and clinical audit.

This could be via one-to-one meetings, Provider visits, and events. Communicate financial information effectively to healthcare professionals in line with the needs of the medicines optimisation function. Responsible for preparation of correspondence and complex papers, reports, and audits as directed by managers. Negotiate using tact and persuasion with providers such as community pharmacy to influence a change in their business plans and SOPs. Analyse and interpret service issues and compare a range of options, e.g., planning for a team-wide project such as a new QIPP target.

Regularly utilise computer software (such as BI tools and ePACT2) to create statistical reports for various Groups, Place-Based Medicines Optimisation Teams, and Providers. Includes the use of formulas and graphical/tabular representation of data. Update, maintain, organise, gather, and analyse information to predict/meet future organisational and team needs by identifying best professional practice.

Responsible for the development and maintenance of databases required for regular reports, e.g., on ePACT2. Undertake complex and detailed information analysis employing advanced expertise using ePACT2 and other Business Intelligence portals to generate prescribing information, in order to develop prescribing audits, identify habits and trends in prescribing; using information gathered to monitor prescribers' progress, provide feedback to Cluster Leads and Place-Based Medicines Optimisation teams, and to individual Providers, and provide any relevant associated support that Providers may require to meet targets at Place or across GM.

Lead or contribute to the creation, maintenance, and monitoring of prescribing support software and any associated profiles and provide reports to GP practices on request. Work closely with Place-Based medicines optimisation teams to develop and implement practice repeat prescribing systems.

Monitor standards and give support where needed, e.g., leading projects within GP surgeries to stop third-party ordering. Contribute to the strategic planning of team projects, identifying interdependencies across projects/functions, potential impacts on wider organisational resource requirements, and building in contingency and adjustments as necessary. Contribute to the development of performance and governance strategies and the development and implementation of improvement programmes in accordance with locality and PCN priorities.

Responsible for monthly development and implementation and progress monitoring of the assigned portfolio operational work-plan, making frequent adjustments as necessary to accommodate prioritising workstreams. Contribute to strategic planning for the next financial year within assigned Portfolios of work and have the ability to make adjustments in year when necessary. Responsible for the development of policies supporting the technical arm within the medicines optimisation team. Develop and implement policies and procedures relating to the provision of technician service within the team, such as policy and procedure for carrying out insulin quantity reviews.

To lead on technical workstreams to achieve targets specified in Provider schemes and other financial efficiencies, by implementing work programmes to effect changes in prescribing and clinical practice. To produce regular reports for the senior leadership team detailing work undertaken in assigned work-plans including collation and calculation of cost efficiency savings and trajectories. Lead on the procurement of medicines and/or appliances when developing new services to ensure efficient use of resources. Line manage Pan GM Medicines Optimisation team members, including conducting appraisals, 1:1s, authorising leave & expenses, managing sickness absence, disciplinary and grievances, staff wellbeing, and performance management.
