We are pleased to announce an exciting vacancy for a part-time Band 6 Senior Occupational Therapist to join our Interim Care Team at University Hospitals Dorset.

We are a multidisciplinary community team providing a discharge to assess service for patients coming out of UHD & community hospitals. The post will involve some weekend working on a shared rota with the multidisciplinary team. We are looking for applicants with community and leadership skills and experience who can provide expertise and clinical support to our community team.

The Interim Team is an extremely dynamic, innovative, and supportive multidisciplinary team looking to improve and integrate health and social care for people in Dorset. This team aims to provide early supported discharge out of hospital for patients in their own homes. We work with patients with physical and mental health conditions.

This role requires HCPC Registration.

Main Duties of the Job

Support the safe flow of patients from the acute hospital to recovery at home by providing a fast-paced rapid assessment service in the community following the 'discharge to assess' model.

Provide a high standard of therapy service to elderly patients discharged from Bournemouth hospital and oversee a caseload of community patients supported by community therapy assistants.

Perform as an autonomous practitioner, assess patients' level of function, set realistic goals, and implement timely Occupational Therapy treatment programs with the aim of improving independence, function, and quality of life, referring to other services as appropriate.

Qualifications

BSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy

HCPC Registration

Evidence of relevant continuing professional development

Desirable

Member of the British Association of Occupational Therapy

Fieldwork Supervision Course

Postgraduate education

Experience

Evidence of clinical interventions in the acute setting and core clinical areas.

Experience of elderly rehabilitation within the acute and community settings.

Experience of facilitating the hospital discharge process, working within a multidisciplinary framework to meet patients' needs holistically.

Work allocation/caseload management.

Supervision of more junior staff.

Minimum of 18 months experience, including acute NHS setting.

Desirable

Student placement supervision.

Involvement in change and service development.

Leading group exercise and education.

Experience in the primary care setting.

Technical Skills Competencies

Ability to assess, manage & treat patients with complex multi-pathologies at a highly specialist level.
