Applications are invited from Occupational Therapists with specific experience in Dementia and Cognitive Impairment to join the Older Adult Community Mental Health team on the beautiful Island of Guernsey, in the Channel Islands. The Community Service MDT comprises Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Mental Health Nurses and Support Workers who support patients in the community requiring treatment and interventions. As the successful applicant for this role, you will: Utilise your highly developed specialist knowledge in Occupational Therapy and be responsible for the co-ordination of the OT service for people with dementia who are cognitively impaired and their carers in the hospital and community settings. Contribute to the development of the service providing advice on the future needs of this group of people. Undertake appropriate assessments working within the MDT, prioritising and maintaining independence within their own environment for as long as possible, well-being and life skills. Assist with the professional development of self and other staff. Act at times as an advocate for this client group and to act as a Clinical Specialist to other areas of the service as required. Please note; Guernsey has adopted the AfC banding system, but have applied their own salary scale. The current Band 6 salary range is £43,954 to £59,343 plus an annual bonus of £1,605. Annual leave starts at 36 days up to 42 days with full credit for NHS service for annual leave and sick leave. Guernsey provides excellent Mental Health and Occupational Therapy care, supported by modern equipment and reliant on Healthcare professionals recruited to a high standard. The island of Guernsey is in the Channel Islands and has a population of 65,000. It has some of Britain's finest and best-kept beaches, an especially mild and sunny climate, and an offbeat, historic harbour town in St. Peter's Port, the island's capital. Person requirements: Qualified Occupational Therapist with full HCPC registration. Current or recent experience of older people in mental health settings primarily with a diagnosis of dementia. A sound knowledge of NICE guidelines in dementia care. The ability to manage own defined caseload. Experienced in supervision of Students and OT Assistants, and assisting in the orientation of junior qualified staff. The benefits of working in Guernsey include: A higher-than-UK salary.
