This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced, dynamic and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join our Trauma and Orthopaedics Therapy Team. The post is based at James Cook University Hospital but the post holder will be required to work on occasion at the Friarage Hospital Northallerton.

This post offers development in clinical and leadership skills, and the post holder will be supported to attend relevant post graduate courses. We have an established comprehensive training programme and our staff are encouraged and supported in their CPD through workshops, clinical supervision, and the appraisal process. There is also an expectation to actively participate in audit and research, and the Hospital has close links with both the University of Teesside and Durham University.

The post is based at James Cook University Hospital but there is a requirement for some ward work and clinics to be done at the Friarage Hospital Northallerton.

Main duties of the job

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in the country, close to the North Yorkshire Moors and within easy reach of Newcastle and Leeds. It comprises two acute hospitals, James Cook University Hospital and Friarage Hospital Northallerton, and a number of community hospitals and community services.

Therapy services at South Tees NHS trust are also part of the wider Integrated OT service. This is a unique partnership between Health and Social care in South Tees with a commitment to working together, improving the quality of our services and getting rid of existing barriers between health and social services.

The post holder will be expected to have experience in the occupational therapy assessment and management of Trauma and Orthopaedic patients and have gained experience across a variety of specialties. You will be required to hold a complex caseload of patients with multiple pathologies. The post holder will be required to act as a highly specialised resource to other professionals and provide supervision to more junior staff, assistants, and students.

The ability to travel independently is also an essential part of this post as you may need to conduct community access visits and work on occasion at the Friarage Hospital Northallerton.

Successful candidate must have access to a vehicle for work purposes to meet the requirements of the role.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

To hold a Diploma, or Degree awarded by professional body Registered as fit to practice by the Health and Care Council (HCPC) as a registered Occupational Therapist Evidence of Post Graduate clinical training/ development with documented evidence

Desirable

Evidence of post graduate experience at MSc level or equivalent, or willing to work towards.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

Has knowledge and understanding of, and has appropriate skills to complete occupational therapy assessments used in Trauma and Orthopaedics. Complex problem solving and assessment skills. Experience of managing, supervising and delegating work to students and qualified and unqualified staff.

Desirable

Experience in service improvement or leading a change project.

Experience

Essential

Demonstrates a specialist clinical knowledge and skills relevant to role. Demonstrates excellent organisational/ delegation/prioritisation skills.

Desirable

Experience of trauma and orthopaedics.

Essential

Ability to work autonomously across both localities (JCUH and FHN). Commitment to lifelong learning and training others.
