Cambian Merida is a 22 bedded children’s residential service which is split into 5 individual homes including an education provision through Cambian Dunbroch school located on the same site. The residential homes cater for young people age 12 – 18 years old with ongoing mental health needs, neurodevelopmental needs, and challenging behaviours that may prevent them from functioning within the community without continued therapeutic support. Job Role
You will be providing Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions within an Ofsted registered specialist residential service for young people with complex mental health needs. This is a therapeutic children residential care setting where you will be working alongside Psychiatry, Psychologists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Educators, Practice Nurse, Therapeutic Practitioners, and Residential Care Workers. Working as part of a multi-professional clinical team, you will be responsible for assessment of an individual’s Occupational Therapy needs and delivery of 1:1 and group interventions. You will be given the opportunity to develop management and supervision skills while taking responsibility for the supervision of Occupational Therapy assistants already in post. Alongside this, you will also be providing training, support, and consultation to the team working with the young person. This includes key workers within the home and teaching staff within the service-specific education provision. As a developing service, there will also be active involvement and leadership in the development of the Cambian Occupational Therapy service to ensure this is evidence-based and is able to meet the needs of the young people. Other responsibilities will include attendance at child-focused meetings, including CMAP meetings, LAC reviews, report writing, training delivery, liaising with external agencies as required, playing an active role in assessments of young people to determine suitability for the service, and contributing to risk management plans and placement plans. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, forward-thinking occupational therapist to join our friendly team. Someone with a clinical interest in trauma and post-traumatic difficulties, complex co-morbidity, neurodevelopmental difficulties, and attachment disorders would be welcomed. Experience of work with children presenting with risk to themselves and others would also be beneficial. The interest in working independently, shaping the clinical offer for children and young people will help the candidate achieve very highly in the service. Essential:
BSc or MSc in Occupational Therapy Registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registered with RCOT Experience in working in Mental Health, and working with a trauma-informed approach Demonstrate an interest in service development Have a licence and access to own transport Be a strong team player Have excellent communication, organisational, and time management skills You will provide quality assessments and interventions within the Model of Human Occupation Beneficial:
