Two exciting opportunities have arisen for experienced policy professionals to join the Strategy, Policy and Insight team within the Council's Policy and Partnership Service to support several key projects. The service leads all corporate planning and performance related activities across the Council, ensuring responsive and flexible policy support is provided to the Chief Executive, Corporate Management Team, service management teams, and elected members.

We are currently looking for two senior policy officers to join the policy team. Each of these posts will have a specific remit to support key corporate priorities, as outlined below, in addition to the main responsibilities of all our senior policy officers. Due to the nature of our team and the work that we do, there are ongoing opportunities to work across different service policy teams.

Key Responsibilities

The first postholder will play a key role in developing, co-ordinating, and leading a range of policy activities to support the Council and wider partnership response to population change in Renfrewshire, including in relation to migration and asylum. With a strong interest and understanding in population/migration related policy, the postholder will provide strategic support to senior managers and elected members and work with wider community planning partners to support our local strategic response.

The second postholder will play a key role in progressing work related to our Trauma Informed and Responsive Renfrewshire programme and supporting the development of new work in relation to customer engagement and tackling stigma. Whilst a knowledge and interest in the principles of trauma-informed practice is desirable, the postholder will have a focus on policy rather than practice. The postholder will provide strategic support to senior managers across the organisation on these initiatives as well as the broader strategic priorities of the Council.

Minimum Requirements Both roles will suit an organised individual with effective and well-developed policy development and influencing skills. Educated to degree or equivalent level, for both posts, it is essential that you have significant experience in local government or a similar diverse organisation and significant experience of policy or strategy development.

You must have experience of producing written briefings and reports for a range of audiences, knowledge and understanding of current policy issues and developments affecting local government.

You must also be able to analyse and present complex information, have the ability to work to tight deadlines, be flexible in your approach, and have effective IT, time management, organisational, verbal, written communication, and presentation skills.

Both posts are for two years, or until the requirement for the post ceases, whichever date is the earlier.

More detailed information is included within the attached job outline; however, if you would like to discuss these opportunities informally, please contact Pauline Moss.

If successful, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure Scotland check, the level of check will be determined by the duties of the post. For further information in relation to the Disclosure Scotland checks, please visit
