Who are we? We are the Emergency Duty Service, working outside of normal hours, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays. Our team consists of experienced Managers and Practitioners, all qualified in social work and as Approved Mental Health professionals, enabling us to conduct emergency assessments under the Mental Health Act. We also have advisors who screen calls, gather information, and provide advice or redirect calls to the Social Work team. We operate on a 7-day shift rota to respond to emergencies outside of normal office hours for Essex and Southend Borough Council under contract. What is the best part of your job?

We find it rewarding to help vulnerable adults and children out of hours and provide effective services for situations that cannot wait until the next working day. Our aim is to stabilize crisis situations where required and to support other professionals working in emergency situations. The Experience You Will Bring

Social Work Degree or equivalent and Social Work England registration as a qualified Social Worker. Qualified as an Approved Mental Health Professional under the 1983 Mental Health Act (as amended). Experience of direct work with children and families, preferably in child protection investigation work. Experience working with vulnerable adults. Experience in a Duty Team. Able to work under pressure and organize practice workload effectively. Effective communication skills, both written and orally. Ability to empower children and their carers to participate fully in the work undertaken. Knowledge of current Community Care practices and multi-agency systems of Assessment and Care Management for older people and vulnerable adults. Understanding of relevant policy and recent research findings across all client specialisms. Commitment to anti-oppressive behavior, practice, and management. Willingness to work collaboratively as part of a team while recognizing management responsibilities. Flexibility in work approach and duties. The role requires mobility throughout a wider operational area, including traveling around Essex and beyond, transporting service users and their belongings in emergencies. A driving license and car, or the ability to meet mobility requirements through other means, is essential.
