Job Description

Are you a

Mechanical Design Engineer

who thrives on leading the way on solving difficult engineering problems? Are you drawn to complex projects and excited by the opportunity to rapidly progress your technical leadership skills to the next level, heading up multi-disciplinary projects?

If so, you might enjoy solving the energy industry's most important mechanical engineering conundrums for a multitude of energy systems across a variety of clients. You could be managing exciting projects designing test rigs in support of the development of the UK’s nuclear fusion capabilities, carrying out structural integrity assessment of primary plant (for both civil and defence applications) to keep existing fleet generating, designing high integrity structures for new nuclear establishments, or leading one of many renewable energy projects across a growing carbon net zero portfolio. You're likely to be juggling several projects simultaneously, so enjoying being adaptable is a must! The constant in this role is the complex nature of the jobs and the chance to provide innovative solutions to a range of problems for several appreciative clients.

Whichever energy-related projects you get involved in, you'll be engaged in the development of engineering solutions to the industry's most challenging problems, so you'll be making an important and rewarding contribution to the energy and environmental security of the UK and beyond.

If you are a self-starter who can deliver multiple projects at the same time, working closely with clients and internal teams to capture requirements, set up projects and deliver right-first-time solutions for the most challenging problems in the energy industry, then we'd love you to apply.

Role Requirements:

You will deliver projects, lead teams and programmes, or work directly for our clients embedded into their major programmes. To benefit from the collective experience of the team and our clients, and drive innovative thinking, you'll work in a collaborative and supportive office/site environment for a minimum of half of your working week. You will bring sound commercial awareness when supervising those teams to effectively deliver tasks for multiple workstreams and to deliver to time, quality, and cost.

As an Engineer within our team, your work will be diverse and challenging and will include overseeing and checking of code compliant calculations, reviewing and approving technical documents, managing design activities and outputs (CAD designs and drawings), as well as liaising with the project manager and director in supporting commercial matters and bidding activities.

Essential Criteria: Degree qualified mechanical engineer (or other relevant qualification). Experience working with design codes typical for the engineering industry (ASME, Eurocodes, BS EN13001, RCC-M etc., HS&E legislation). Experience in requirements capture, including functional, non-functional, stakeholder and regulatory requirements. Experience in supervising and overseeing optioneering studies to generate design solutions. Experience in overseeing and reviewing mechanical engineering substantiation for new designs or existing plant. Experience in writing, reviewing, and approving technical reports and documentation (e.g., design calculations, basis of analysis, safety case reports, design reports). Confident liaising with, presenting to, and influencing your stakeholders at all levels both internally and externally, in understanding their issues, goals, and processes. Proven track record of leading successful engineering projects with varying team sizes. Experience in delivery accountability for mechanical engineering solutions.

Please flag if you have experience in any of the following (but still apply if you might enjoy gaining that experience too): Working, or authoring bids, within a safety critical and heavily regulated environment. Nuclear industry knowledge and safety case appreciation. Hazard/fault identification studies e.g., HAZOP, HAZAN, FMEA. Or if you are chartered with a relevant professional institute (or approaching application for registration).

We help to power our world through exciting new technologies and intelligent cybersecurity systems on projects that vary greatly in size, scope, and scale. So, you'll be creating the right safe and resilient systems across nuclear power, renewables, decarbonisation development, new builds and energy efficiency.

Meeting your needs:

When you start with us, you'll enjoy "Total Reward," a package that can be tailored to your lifestyle, career and personal needs. From flexible holidays to life assurance, health & wellbeing benefits, and career planning for the senior stage of your career. Making sure you're supported is important to us. So, if you identify as having a disability, tell us ahead of your interview. And let's talk about any adjustments you might need.

Additional Information:

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary, it will be discussed with you at interview.
