Leading oil and gas operator seeking a Senior Process Safety Engineer to provide expert technical guidance and support to Onshore and Offshore Teams. The role involves overseeing process safety risk assessments, leading Barrier Model reviews, supporting safety management systems, and driving improvements. The role can either be a permanent staff position or PAYE contract position. The company is based in the city centre of Aberdeen, and this will be a full-time office-based position. Accountabilities & Responsibilities: Maintaining a comprehensive understanding of relevant regulations, company procedures, and industry best practice. Working proactively with Onshore and Offshore Teams, providing timely and accurate technical/process safety engineering advice. Leading and participating in asset Barrier Model reviews, offering guidance for improvements and overseeing the asset’s Barrier Model health status. Ensuring the quality of process safety risk assessments for operational activities and proposed modifications, such as Safety Critical Elements Risk Assessment (SCRA), Hazard Identification (HAZID), and Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA). Supporting and promoting the technical/process safety aspects of the company’s Safety and Environmental Management System (SEMS). Acting as the Performance Standard Owner for designated Performance Standards. Assisting in developing and maintaining a process safety reporting system, including Process Safety Performance Indicators (PSPIs) and relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Proactively identifying opportunities for safety engineering and process safety improvements, developing efficient and sustainable solutions. Identifying leading indicators related to process safety and taking timely action to prevent Major Accident Hazards (MAH). Providing process safety engineering advice and support across all asset hubs, ensuring accountability for performance assurance reports against relevant standards. Continuously monitoring performance standards through audits and reviews, ensuring maintenance strategies align with the asset’s Safety and Environmentally Critical Elements (SECE) lifecycle. Participating in process safety-related incident investigations, ensuring lessons are captured and effectively shared across sites. Reviewing, maintaining, and developing process safety procedures and processes. Supporting and participating in process safety audits, conducting SCRA/Operational Risk Assessment (ORA) reviews, and facilitating risk assessments to support decision-making. Preparing technical notes to ensure legislative compliance and provide technical justification for resolving process safety issues. Liaising with the Independent Competent Person (ICP) to address actions raised during periodic verification visits and assess the suitability of verification schemes. Facilitating and coordinating HAZIDs, risk assessments, P&ID reviews, ALARP studies, and Major Accident Hazard (MAH) screenings, ensuring high assessment standards are maintained. Providing process safety support for the Management of Change process, including reviewing Authorisations for Alteration (AFAs), Technical Queries (TQs), P Forms, Work Management System (WMS) deferrals, and Change Requests. Planning, participating in, coordinating, and providing technical input for safety case thorough reviews and Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) Safety Report reviews. Developing post-review reports highlighting lessons learned and identifying opportunities for improving and optimising the thorough review process. Supporting regulator site visits with a focus on process safety, contributing to regulatory responses (e.g., Notices of Improvement (NAIs), enforcement actions) and assisting with safety case amendments, material changes, and combined operations notification submissions. Facilitating process safety risk assessments for operational activities and proposed modifications (e.g., HAZID, QRA), ensuring compliance with company-wide procedures and standards while tracking and analysing process safety performance against KPIs. Professional Skills and Experience: Broad industry experience preferred, with substantial direct involvement in oil and gas operations or a closely related onshore support role. Previous experience as a technical safety professional within the oil and gas sector. Strong knowledge and understanding of the UK regulatory framework. Awareness of human factors and their influence on process safety. Education and Certifications: A relevant Engineering degree or equivalent, along with a risk management qualification, and significant technical experience in a similar role. A postgraduate qualification or equivalent in Safety and Reliability Engineering is desirable. Additional Requirements: The role may require offshore travel for specific business needs.
