My client is a leading construction and civil engineering firm specialising in groundwork projects.

Due to continued growth, they are seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team and play a critical role in delivering successful projects while driving value and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will oversee the commercial aspects of multiple groundworks projects, ensuring that financial targets are met, and that work is carried out to the highest standards. Key duties include:

Pre-Contract Duties: Preparation and management of cost plans, estimates, and budgets. Tender evaluations, contract negotiations, and procurement of subcontractors. Review and ensure compliance with JCT contract requirements.

Post-Contract Duties: Management of project costs, variations, and contractual claims. Monitoring and controlling project budgets, forecasting, and cash flow. Leading valuations, applications for payment, and final accounts processes. Ensuring timely preparation and submission of commercial reports to stakeholders.

Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with clients, contractors, and internal teams to ensure clear communication and resolution of issues. Negotiate with subcontractors to secure favourable terms while maintaining quality standards. Act as the main point of contact for commercial and contractual queries.

Risk and Compliance: Identify, mitigate, and manage risks to safeguard project profitability. Ensure compliance with health and safety, legal, and environmental standards.

Skills and Qualifications

To excel in this role, you will need:

A degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline. Proven experience (5+ years) in a similar role within the groundworks or civil engineering sector. Comprehensive understanding and application of JCT contract forms and amendments. Strong commercial acumen and the ability to manage large budgets and complex projects. Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., Microsoft Office, cost management tools). Excellent negotiation, communication, and leadership skills. Membership in a professional body (e.g., RICS or CIOB) is advantageous.
