Permanent Main Activities/Responsibilities

Ensuring a firm, caring, consistent, well-ordered environment is maintained at all times. Supervising young people including mealtimes and proactively supporting/encouraging the development of their cooking and household skills. Actively promoting and participating in care planning, developing risk assessments, behaviour management, and attending regular team meetings. Accompanying children and young people on recreational activities and demonstrating positive role modelling. Working as part of a team to provide a programme of evening, weekend, and school holiday activities for children and young people while effectively managing small budgets. Promoting the social and emotional well-being and development of children and young people. Liaising with other staff, professionals, parents, and carers as necessary while maintaining high levels of professionalism. Attending home visits and providing a specialist outreach service to young people, families, and carers as required. Undertaking administrative tasks linked to the care of children and young people, including keeping appropriate records and making reports as required. Maintaining a log of all accidents, incidents, or physical interventions and challenging suspected inappropriate practices according to policies and procedures. Participating in case reviews and providing support and assistance when difficulties arise. Keeping up to date with the home's policies, young people's risk assessments, and care plans; following them at all times. Assisting in developing strategies in behaviour management and taking a lead role in managing challenging behaviour. Assisting with the medical and physical needs of children and young people and ensuring participation at some level, regardless of ability. Promoting young people reaching their own targets and developmental plans. Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people and staying updated on safeguarding legislation and policy. Ensuring healthcare needs of children and young people are met, including making appointments and accompanying them. Reporting any noticeable significant changes in health, behaviour, or circumstances of children and young people to management. Being a key member of the care team with the ability to work within a team. Being innovative, creative, flexible, and open-minded with a willingness to learn. Demonstrating empathy, sensitivity, self-awareness, and acceptance of others. Taking full responsibility for one child, including behaviour support plans, creating risk assessments, and attending relevant meetings. Working with children in groups and individually to contribute to their personal development. Promoting well-being, education, learning, life skills, and health. Working towards a plan for independent living, involving budgeting, cooking, cleaning, and personal care. Providing an individualised 24-hour programme for the child in a safe and comfortable environment. Promoting interests and engaging with children to broaden their achievements. Protecting children from harm and managing risk assessments related to individual children. Developing an understanding of the needs of both assigned and other children. Generating ideas to improve their quality of life and the service. Leading shifts and supervising residential care workers, with supervision training provided. Being responsible for decision-making during shifts, liaising with third parties, and organizing shift plans. Ensuring smooth operations and effective communication during shifts. Managing shift check-ins, handovers, and ensuring timely completion of all documents and reports. Personal Qualities, Skills & Characteristics
