Main duties of the job The Respiratory Physiology Department at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Band 6 Senior Respiratory Physiologist to work at both the Royal South Hants Hospital covering our new Clinical Diagnostic Centre and at Southampton General Hospital. You will be working as a Lead Respiratory Physiologist and will be responsible for teaching, mentoring, and training colleagues from within and external to the department. Being a regional centre for several specialities means we see patients with a wide array of conditions and treatments such as Sarcoidosis, Cystic Fibrosis, Bone Marrow Transplant, Difficult Asthma, and Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. Job description Job responsibilities We provide a wide array of tests such as Feno, Impulse Oscillometry, Spirometry, Gas Transfer, Body Plethysmography, MIPS/MEPS/SNIP, postural Spirometry, etc., along with complex tests such as Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (athletes, CF, Pulmonary Hypertension, etc.) and Bronchial Provocation Challenge Testing. We test inpatients and outpatients on a daily basis, meaning being proactive and excellent teamwork and communication are critical. Previous experience working as a Band 6 is desirable but not essential. Please note if you do not fulfil all of the essential criteria then the successful applicant will be able to complete an internal work-based training programme, which includes in-house competencies and relevant external accreditations. Once these requirements are completed, then the successful applicant will immediately become a Band 6 Senior Respiratory Physiologist. This job role can be an opportunity to progress your career within the Respiratory Physiology field! You will have a special interest in Respiratory Medicine/Lung Function Testing. You will already be working within the Respiratory Field/Lung Function Testing and may have already be ARTP accredited or are willing to work towards this. You will need to work flexibly across sites, be proactive, and enjoy working in a fast-paced respiratory outpatient department. Being an excellent coach for patients whilst having a keen eye for detail and accuracy is essential. The Respiratory Physiology department works Monday-Friday 08:30-16:30 with the opportunity to see private patients outside of contracted hours to complement your salary. A driving license is not essential, but travelling across sites is part of this job role.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience Essential BSc in Clinical Physiology (Respiratory)/relevant degree associated with relevant clinical experience within Pulmonary function testing or equivalent ARTP Professional Examination or willingness to work towards it Eligible for or already registered with ACHS or other equivalent professional body Trained in Basic Life Support Continuing evidence of CPD and personal compliance with CPD guidelines and professional codes of conduct Current experience of physiology practice in a relevant field. Experience in providing formal and informal training Experience in overseeing staff Proficient in using pulmonary function testing equipment and related software To contribute to guidelines and protocols within the department Ability to give effective feedback in a range of situations Manual dexterity and coordination for operation and maintenance of complex equipment. Movement of patients and testing equipment.

Desirable Additional physiology qualifications e.g. cardiac, sleep, etc. Practice supervisor / Train the Trainer or similar. Other work-based assessor management Foundation management or equivalent
