Senior Special Needs School Nurse (term-time only)

The Community Children's Nursing Team is part of an Integrated Service for Disabled Children operating within a wider service system encompassing Acute and Community Services. The team needs to evolve to take account of the need for greater integration to meet the challenging needs of local children in the borough. The team provides care for children between the ages of 0-19 years who are in need of nursing care at home or in an education setting. An opportunity has arisen to appoint a term time only, Band 6 Special School nurse. The post holder will be predominantly based at Stephen Hawking Special Needs school for pupils aged 5-11, but may need to rotate across the other 2 sites when necessary. The hours are Mon-Fri 08:30 - 16:30 term time only. Main duties of the job

To provide clinical leadership to the nursing team within Beatrice Tate and Stephen Hawking Special Needs Schools, ensuring the delivery of the highest standard of individualised family centred care to children and their families in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team. The post holder is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the health care needs of children within the special needs schools. They will lead in the supervision, education and assessments of students, junior members of the nursing team, teaching assistants, and carers/family members. About us

Qualifications

RSCN / RN Child with current registration Preparation for mentorship course or equivalent Educated to degree level or working towards it Specialist Community Public Health qualification. Experience

Post registration experience as a Band 5 Nurse Previous experience of working with children with complex needs. Previous experience of working within an educational setting Experience of successful working across organisational boundaries Experience of assessing and supervising nursing students Evidence of continuing professional development Experience of teaching parents/carers in health related tasks. Previous experience of line managing junior members of staff Leadership of an area Awareness of budget and stock control Disclosure and Barring Service Check
