Specialist Biomedical Scientist - Haematology

based across

University Hospital Crosshouse and University Hospital Ayr . What you will do: You will be an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist, qualified to Master’s degree level or equivalent educational level and have several years’ experience within a busy Haematology / Blood Transfusion Laboratory. As a team leader, you will be the first-line manager for HCPC Registered BMS staff, Trainee BMS and MLA staff. Under the direction of the Lead Scientist, you will be responsible for the organisation and prioritisation of work through the department, and in addition, will perform a complex range of tests with the aid of specialised equipment, in order to produce results which will aid in the diagnosis of disease, and the treatment of patients. There is a requirement for a high degree of written and technical accuracy as you will be directly involved with appropriate responsibilities for achieving and maintaining laboratory standards such as ISO15189:2022, BSQR 2005 and MHRA. Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job: Existing Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Biomedical Science registrant. Senior BMS staff must have attained MSc status or equivalent educational level. Maintaining Registration requirements of the HCPC is mandatory. Participation in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as required by HCPC. Detailed knowledge of Haematological and / or Transfusion science is essential. High standard of health & safety awareness and training required to process samples according to the laboratory safety protocols. Ongoing training including mandatory updates and refresher courses. Numeracy and keyboard skills required. The post involves rotating through general Haematology and Blood Transfusion at both Ayr and Crosshouse Hospitals. Hours:

37 hours per week over 7 days which will include working some public holidays (including Christmas/New Year). The department operates a 24/7 shift system which includes early, day shift, back shift, overnight and weekend shifts (some periods are lone working). This will be a contractual requirement for the successful candidate. Driving Licence/Car Ownership: A car licence/car ownership is essential to this role.
