Lloyds Register Location : Southampton, United Kingdom. What we're looking for We are currently looking for a qualified candidate to join our Technical Support Office (TSO) team. The role involves providing a world-wide, plan approval service to shipbuilders, ship owners, and manufacturers. The purpose of this role is to carry out plan approval of maritime machinery components (i.e marine engines, steer gears, windlasses, winches, etc.) and machinery dynamics (i.e. Torsional-, Axial-, Lateral Vibrations, Shaft Alignment, and Resilient Mounted Machinery) in accordance with the applicable international standards and class rules, using procedures, experience, and knowledge appropriate for the design appraisal of plans for the above-mentioned aspects for new building marine equipment and components/conversion/in-service vessels. A portion of the responsibilities may involve work on Naval Ships, and with respect to the required security levels, the right applicant will preferably hold or must be able to achieve UK SC security clearance. The Role: Carry out plan approval of machinery components and machinery dynamics in accordance with appropriate Lloyd’s Register Rules & Regulations, Statutory Regulations, and International Standards. Monitor revisions to Statutory, Rule, and Flag requirements and apply these revisions as appropriate. Build and maintain a good relationship with our clients and internal stakeholders. Provide technical advice to internal and external clients. Discuss and present the deliverables with internal/external clients and suggest solutions where appropriate. Undertake project management where applicable, including monitoring project progress and spend against budget and contract requirements. Coach less experienced colleagues and act as a mentor as agreed with the line manager. What you bring Bachelor or Master degree in Mechanical/Marine Engineering/Material or equivalent; preferably Chartered/Professional qualification and a member of a relevant professional institution. Over 10 years of experience in offshore or marine machinery & engineering system design (or appraisal) from Yard, Class, Ship owner, Designers, Manufacturers, etc. Necessary experience/knowledge in the area of marine engineering with particular emphasis on one or more of the following: Piping Systems and piping components, Machinery components, Pressure equipment, and Plastic pipes, plastic materials, or rubber. Knowledge of Quality Assurance systems is preferred. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, prioritise work, meet LR and Clients’ deadlines, and work effectively under pressure. Good skills in maintaining relationships with clients with a client-focused mindset. Proficiency in the English Language commensurate with the work and effective interpersonal skills.
