Luton Council is seeking dedicated Senior Support Workers to join our committed team, helping individuals achieve independence, dignity, and enhanced quality of life. Key Responsibilities: As a Senior Support Worker, you will: Assist individuals in accessing a diverse range of community activities and services. Provide formal guidance and support to staff, fostering a collaborative team environment. Offer compassionate, person-centered care, respecting each individual’s physical, emotional, and social needs, promoting independence, choice, and dignity. Communicate effectively with a variety of people across different settings. Advocate for individuals, ensuring their needs and preferences are prioritized in day care services. Respond proactively in emergency situations and liaise with relevant professionals when needed. Identify and address any form of discrimination in the service or workplace, taking action as appropriate. About you Essential Skills and Requirements: Understanding of issues affecting clients with learning disabilities and familiarity with the needs of this client group. Ability and willingness to obtain a QCF Level 3 Care Qualification. Flexibility to travel across various bases within Luton, working shifts, including split-shifts, sleep-in, and waking nights as required. Physical ability to handle and move individuals safely (training and equipment will be provided). Strong verbal communication skills, with fluency in English to support and advise individuals confidently and effectively. This is a public-facing role so you’ll need to show off your fluency in speaking and writing English. Application Process Because of the nature of this job, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of criminal record disclosure to be undertaken. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore applicants are required to declare all unspent cautions and convictions; and also any adult cautions (simple or conditional), and spent convictions that are not protected as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2020). A person’s criminal record will not in itself prevent a person from being appointed to this post. Applicants will not be refused posts because of offences which are not relevant to, and do not place them at or make them a risk in, the role for which they are applying. However, in the event of the employment being taken up, any failure to disclose such offence, as detailed above, will result in dismissal or disciplinary action by the Authority.
