Overview We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing high-quality support to individuals in an emergency housing setting. This position requires a strong commitment to enhancing the lives of our residents through effective communication and leadership. Responsibilities Provide physical, emotional, intellectual, and social support to residents in a way that is respectful, promoting dignity and independence. Provide a caring, supportive, and nurturing environment in which residents can feel secure and free from harm. Establish relationships that residents perceive to be positive, warm, and rewarding; providing advice, assistance, and support on a 1:1 basis to enable residents to address past and present difficulties. Communicate with the people you support using appropriate communication methods. Develop and implement personal support plans. Assist residents with navigating the welfare system and advocating for them when necessary. Support the Operations Manager with the day-to-day running of the accommodation. Keep accurate records, provide written reports, and complete any appropriate documentation that is needed. Work as part of a team, being aware of the aims and objectives of the home and working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve them. Attend team/staff meetings and make a positive contribution to them. Actively contribute to the development of the team. Be familiar with all policies and procedures and adhere to them. General Responsibilities Receive training appropriate to the role and maintain an up-to-date training profile. Maintain accurate financial records appropriate to the duties of the post. Ensure health, safety, and welfare of self and colleagues in accordance with the organisational Health and Safety Policies. Skills Two years of experience as a support worker to vulnerable people. Experience of coordinating, supervising, or mentoring others (in any work environment). NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent relevant knowledge and experience gained on-the-job. Ability to plan and prioritise a varied workload. Understanding of budgeting. Experience of using person-centred support plans. Excellent time management skills. Flexible and adaptable, able to respond to ongoing change. Experience of participating in multi-agency meetings. Knowledge of drug and alcohol misuse. Knowledge of, and experience providing support around, mental health. Knowledge of the issues facing vulnerable women, including domestic abuse. Good IT skills with the ability to effectively use computer software packages, i.e., Microsoft Office. Ability to set and maintain professional boundaries with staff and clients. Demonstrable ability to challenge inappropriate behaviour, de-escalate challenging situations, and manage conflict. Good communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to build and maintain good working relationships with a range of people. Ability to motivate and encourage others.
