Role: Senior Avionics Systems Engineer

Location: Lancashire (Hybrid)

Salary: Competitive

The Eurofighter Typhoon Avionics Joint Team (AJT) oversees the system-level functional design and partitioning of avionics across the seven core subsystems and more than 100 "black boxes." The team is also responsible for conducting avionics safety analysis, managing qualification and certification of the integrated system, and ensuring successful product delivery to customers.

The Front-End Team supports Eurofighter by gathering customer requirements and system constraints, then synthesizing them into a cohesive Design Concept, ensuring alignment and consistency across all Avionics Design teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Customer Requirements Analysis: Assess new and emerging customer requirements, delivering safety and avionic scope assessments and feasibility analyses across the seven primary subsystem teams.
  • Requirement Review Coordination: Lead the review of customer documentation, such as Statements of Requirements (SOR) or System Requirements Documents (SRD), to identify customer needs and develop an understanding of the "Problem Space." Document findings in the Avionic System Scope and Feasibility Analysis Report (ASFAR).
  • Initial Safety Assessments: Coordinate preliminary safety reviews of design changes, identifying key concerns, hazards, and the need for Weapon System Preliminary Hazard Analysis (WS PHA). These insights are captured in the ASFAR.
  • Technical Assessment of Business Cases: Collaborate on initial technical reviews of Customer Business Cases to document scope, impact, and potential solutions for changes. Analyse solutions to define a single Avionic Design recommendation and perform a final feasibility study.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • STEM Degree: Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field or equivalent experience.
  • Systems Engineering Expertise: Extensive experience in systems engineering throughout the entire development lifecycle, ideally within Aerospace or Defence sectors.
  • Requirements Capture & Management: Proven background in capturing and managing requirements, with a strong understanding of how requirements impact platform and equipment planning.
  • Effective Communication: Skilled in both written and verbal communication, with the ability to establish and maintain relationships with customers, stakeholders, and AJT teams.
  • Project Documentation: Demonstrated ability to produce formal project documentation to a high standard.
