Base salary:

Birmingham £47,450pa to c.£59,300pa/London £53,850pa to £67,300pa depending on skills and experience. As Senior Systemwide Engineer you’ll manage and deliver targeted and strategic multidisciplinary systemwide engineering projects to resolve key railway level integration challenges considering all technical, operation, cost, affordability and programme constraints. Delivery of this role will provide a critical contribution to ensuring the correct HS2 operational railway is delivered through providing clarity and ensuring stakeholder consensus in system level solutions and contributions required from each sub-system. About the role:

Determine approach for resolution of assigned key integration challenges, establish multidisciplinary team and consensus in the plan to resolve. Lead, manage and successfully deliver targeted systemwide engineering projects with multidisciplinary teams. Lead and deliver systemwide engineering activities including engineering and options analysis and impact assessment. Lead and prepare objective and persuasive technical recommendation papers to gain approval for associated key decisions from Governance Panels. Lead engagement of a diverse range of stakeholders to establish consensus in options, impact assessment and project outcomes. Ensure complete and comprehensive evidence base for all key decisions. Monitor and report on progress towards gaining approval and completion of project implementation. Active participation in the Prime Systems Integrator integration forum ensuring that the integration topics requiring systemwide engineering support are identified and allocated appropriately. Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work, and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI. About You:

Skills:

Ability to problem solve in a railway integration context, understand the source problem and develop projects to resolve the challenges through engineering analysis, options and impact assessment. Multidisciplinary railway engineering and technical leadership on all discipline-specific scientific, technical and engineering principles across all phases of the engineering lifecycle. Critically evaluate stakeholder priorities to determine relative importance of integration issues to determine the correct order for resolution of integration challenges. Able to systematically build clear and robust evidence across all railway disciplines. Able to reconcile challenging and differing stakeholder views, build consensus and produce clearly articulated robust and objective technical recommendation papers on which to make decisions. Ability to produce communications which engage and influence colleagues at all levels. Knowledge:

Understanding Regulatory/Legislative Framework for High-Speed Railways in UK and Europe. The application of the Common Safety Method (CSM) for risk evaluation and assessment. Commercial awareness including understanding of cost delivery, schedule targets and the need to deliver an integrated solution that meets all functional requirements. Understanding of all disciplines involved in new high speed railway project delivery. Chartered Engineer/Membership of an appropriate professional institution or the equivalent experience. Type of Experience:

Experience in managing multi-disciplinary engineering projects on large complex major projects/programmes within a complex infrastructure delivery programme. Experience in systems engineering in a railway project environment. Experience of options and impact assessment in a railway project environment. Experience of managing competing project and engineering demands, with cost and schedule implications. Experience of leading multidisciplinary engineering teams in a matrix organisation to deliver project outcomes.
