Position Summary: Senior Technical Artist

Reports to: Technical Art Director

The Tech-Art team is a crossroads for art, engineering, and design.

You communicate clearly and concisely to any audience in order to provide details that are important and relevant to them.

Responsibilities:

You are a support class! A good support specializes in healing and buffing their team.

Heal

You are resourceful and are quick to figure out how to do something you’ve maybe never even heard of before.

You know the Unreal API well enough to be dangerous, and use that power effectively.

You are an expert on performance and optimization in Unreal Engine and can help identify and prioritize bottlenecks that currently exist, as they arise.

You can analyze existing art workflows and help to create a better optimized, more performant art content pipeline without sacrificing quality.

Buff

You create elegant, stable & performant tools, scripts, and workflows to support content creation for Art, Animation, and Design.

You write clear, concise documentation for your tools (with pictures. Artists love pictures).

You stay current with the newest tech in our industry to define best practices and workflows to help our teams produce content in the most efficient manner.

You communicate and collaborate with the team and our clients to support project needs, provide expertise, surface issues and bring clarity.

You create feature requirements and work with production to break down epics into workable tasks for the team.

You share your expertise with your peers (within Tech-Art and other departments) and accept critique with an open mind.

You build morale, by supporting and encouraging your team with their work.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates either must reside in the EU and EAA or should be accessible during the core hours of the CET time zone.

A portfolio with at least two examples of your technical art skills in Unreal and/or Maya within the last 3 years. (Any in-game or cinematic clips should include a description of how you contributed)

Bachelor’s Degree in Art, Science, Engineering, or Design

5+ years of experience as a Technical Artist working in Unreal Engine

Expert knowledge of Unreal Engine’s Gameplay Systems, API, Blueprints, Materials, Animation systems, and optimization/performance profiling.

Ability to debug low framerates, hitching and spiking in performance and provide solutions for the art & design team to improve performance without sacrificing quality.

Active communication skills with a professional level of English proficiency.

A passion for making tools for content creators/designers.

Expert knowledge of Python, C++ and/or C# with the ability to quickly prototype, develop, and distribute tools and libraries.

Expertise in at least one DCC package. Maya is preferred.

Desired Qualifications:

Motivation and skills to mentor/train others.

Solid understanding of performance and optimization for Unreal Engine.

Intermediate C++ knowledge.

Strong math skills: 3D math, dot arithmetic, and working knowledge of analytic geometry.

Working knowledge of open-source tools such as Blender.

Experience developing games on current-gen consoles.
