24UKET01D20250122 Senior Underwriter – Energy Transition LONDON, UK AXA XL is looking for an experienced Senior Underwriter to take a prominent role for writing Renewable risks as part of an overall energy transition (ET) business portfolio. The energy transition is integral to the drive towards a more sustainable global economy. Supporting the transition is a key part of our climate and sustainability strategy at AXA XL. This is a challenging area for underwriting; it will require an agile mindset, balancing a portfolio approach with the fundamentals of underwriting – whilst maintaining a keen eye on profitability. The right candidate will be able to draw upon a solid background of technical underwriting in engineering/renewables/power, or a similarly complex line of business. You will have the support of highly qualified & experienced Energy Transition risk engineers to keep abreast of the latest developments in technology, and actuaries to help you quantify and price these risks. You will also be working alongside an established team of Upstream, Downstream, Power and Construction underwriters. The ET book will be the cornerstone to helping to meet AXA XL’s net-zero underwriting goals and a key contributor to its wider energy transition journey. It will be important to be visible and approachable to brokers and clients alike. Effective verbal and written communication skills, along with collaborative behaviour, will be essential to the role. This is an exciting role for someone who wants to be part of a greener, more sustainable future, who can marry technical knowledge with adaptive underwriting whilst still delivering profit. Essential Responsibilities:
Reviewing and prioritizing submissions (including slips, wordings, technical information etc.). Calculating appropriate risk premium, with support from the actuarial team. Underwriting within Group rules & guidelines. Servicing accounts and managing client engagement. Effective engagement with brokers, ensuring relationship growth and a good flow of new business. Accountability for underwriting results of ET book; contributing to overall strategy and financial planning. Collaborating with colleagues from wider AXA XL, cross selling where appropriate. You will report to the Underwriting Manager – Energy Transition. Required Skills:
A technical underwriting background with a demonstrable background in writing against complex risk. Ability to manually price out risks. Excellent interpersonal skills. Inquisitive, innovative mindset, with the imagination to develop new products or find solutions for emerging risks. Commercially astute.
