The Position Working as part of the Scottish Ecology team, the successful candidate will be someone with experience in botany and habitat assessments, preferably possessing Phase 1 habitat classification, UK Habitat Classification and National Vegetation Classification (NVC) survey skills, covering a wide range of habitats, as well as key client management. Ideally, the candidate will have full membership of CIEEM. On a day-to-day basis the requirements of the post would involve: Overseeing or carrying out ecology surveys and assessments; Scoping and Project Managing a range of small to medium-scale Projects; Building/maintaining relationships with Clients; Business generation and promotion of Gavia to new clients; Negotiating with statutory agencies, NGOs and other stakeholders on behalf of Clients; Providing assistance to the Technical Director to recruit like-minded Environmental Consultants; Project resource planning and financial reporting; Maintaining the company reporting standards and developing your own Professional Development; Operating at all times in accordance with the CIEEM/IEMA/CIWEM/IFM Professional Code of Conduct. The Candidate We would like to hear from you if you are an experienced ecologist with a high level of technical competence in botany and habitat assessments, although any other ecological specialism is obviously welcome too. You will need to be able to write to a good level of written English and be conversant with the framework of legislation and guidance within which we practice consultancy in the UK. Accurate record-keeping and good project and budgetary management skills are fundamental requirements of the post, as are good interpersonal skills and the ability to advise clients on technical issues both strategically and in detail when required. Essential Knowledge/ Experience/ Skills The following attributes are essential: Excellent plant ID and habitat survey skills; Higher Education Certificate, or Degree equivalent in an environmental subject area; Full and valid driving licence; Advanced understanding of the EIA process and methods; Appropriate professional membership; IT proficiency, particularly within Microsoft applications and project management and planning software. Desirable but not Essential The following attributes are desirable but not essential for the candidate: NatureScot Licence holder; Experience with aquatic flora and habitats; Holder of a CSCS or EMSS Safety Passport card; LANTRA 4x4 training; Emergency Outdoor First Aid.
