Job Opportunity

Due to sustained growth, Labman is seeking to recruit a Support Engineer to join our team in Liverpool. Labman delivers bespoke robotic and software systems to major companies and public bodies across the world. The job will be challenging and dynamic, with opportunities to work with a huge range of established and emergent technologies, providing you with opportunities to learn and develop your skillset. You will be part of a small team of engineers based in our Liverpool office, with regular visits to Labman’s headquarters in North Yorkshire and opportunities to travel within the UK and internationally. Working with electro-mechanical assemblies, plumbing, pneumatics, robotic arms, and a variety of scientific equipment, this role would suit an enthusiastic person who is keen to build on skills in a range of engineering disciplines, working through unique challenges with the assistance of remote specialist teams and documentation. Labman provides training and support with your professional growth, so this position is open to a range of experience levels. Relevant transferable skills may have been gained from the following industries or roles:

Building Management Systems, Control Engineer, HVAC Engineer, On-site Maintenance Engineer, Vehicle Engineer, Agricultural/HGV mechanic, etc. What the Job Involves

Preventative Maintenance & Repairs:

Install, maintain, and repair laboratory automation systems. Technical Support:

Provide on-site technical support and training to customers, operators, and internal teams. Troubleshooting:

Diagnose and resolve technical issues, respond to system breakdowns and loss of performance efficiently to minimize downtime and maintain operational excellence. Quality Assurance:

Conduct performance testing and ensure all systems meet Labman’s quality standards. Customer Engagement:

Build strong relationships with customers by providing excellent service and timely solutions. Documentation:

Accurately document all service activities, maintenance schedules, and customer interactions. Organize support work by identifying short and long-term issues; preparing timetables, cost estimates, and required resources. Travel:

Travel to customer sites as required. Business Development:

Identify business opportunities, upgrades, and improvements of laboratory automation systems. Growth Opportunities

Network:

Build relationships with colleagues, mentors, and leaders in the industry. Develop:

Gain expertise in laboratory robot design and opportunities to participate in cross-functional projects and broaden your skills. Stay Curious:

Explore new tools, technologies, and methodologies that can enhance your expertise. Provide training in operating the robots, routine maintenance, and fault diagnosis. Essential Capabilities Proven experience in problem-solving & fault-finding skills including decision making, clear communication, research & analysis skills. Strong electromechanical knowledge. Willingness to travel within the UK and potentially worldwide (although primarily based in the North-West). Able to commute daily to the Materials Innovation Factory, Liverpool (This is not a remote or hybrid role). Ability to work independently, take initiative, and prioritize work. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Physical fitness to handle on-site tasks, including lifting and equipment handling. Driving license. Desirable Skills / Experience Experience with industrial PLC systems. Automation industry experience. Experience in a customer-facing role. Previous electromechanical system diagnostics experience. CAD experience – Solidworks – nice to have. Company Overview
