SET CAMHS Senior Practitioner Band 7
North SET-CAMHS
has an exciting opportunity for a qualified professional to step into an established role within a diverse and experienced team. We are a large, friendly and innovative team that covers the areas of North Essex (Colchester and Tendring). Children and young people who are referred to SET-CAMHS may present with a range of mental health difficulties which may include: low mood, anxiety, trauma, and other emotional difficulties.
We welcome interest and applications from experienced post-graduate qualified psychological practitioners (e.g. psychologist, family therapist, child and adolescent psychotherapist) or graduate qualified health care professionals (e.g. nurse, social worker, occupational therapist), fully registered with the appropriate professional or regulatory body (e.g. HCPC, NMC). We also welcome applications from practitioners who are in the process of obtaining their full accreditation with their regulatory body as part of a preceptorship programme (a band 6 role for 1 year, with the aim of progressing to band 7 after 1 year provided all requirements of preceptorship are fulfilled, including full accreditation with relevant regulatory body).
Main duties of the job Working as a Senior CAMHS Practitioner in North Essex, you would have a high standard of knowledge and experience of working with young people in CAMH services who are experiencing a range of mental health presentations. We are looking for a dynamic individual who is passionate about helping young people and their families. You would ideally have experience of supervising and managing others, although support and training can be given for this to the right candidate. You would also have a keen interest in developing innovative strategies to support young people and their families.
The role of a Senior Practitioner is to support the development and implementation of a range of interventions such as parent work, group work, school observations of children, short term CAMHS input, and specialist psychological treatments, as indicated by the SET-CAMHS and NICE guidance. You will be responsible for assessment, treatment, and systematic outcome measurement within the team.
As well as holding your own caseload, the senior practitioner supports their clinical team to deliver therapeutic interventions through supervision, teaching, and mentoring. Knowledge and experience of delivering interventions within child mental health is essential. Additional therapeutic skills and training such as CBT, EMDR, Family/Systemic, DBT, and other therapeutic approaches is desirable.

Starting with NELFT: NELFT places a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training, and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process, new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers, and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing, and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

About NELFT's SET-CAMHS : NELFT's SET-CAMHS is for anybody aged between 0-18, living in the Southend, Essex, and Thurrock areas and is free at the point of entry. The service is also for young people with special educational needs (SEN) up to the age of 25. The EWMHS service no longer exists and has been replaced by SET-CAMHS. SET-CAMHS services have included: Advice, training, and support for other health and social services; A range of services including parenting and family groups, short psychological treatments, and mindfulness in schools; More in-depth psychological treatments, which are evidence-based and delivered by highly skilled practitioners in specialist teams; Help and support for all young people at times of crisis; Online and digital services such as Togetherall. All referrals to the service are assessed using a care pathways approach, developed in line with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidance criteria (NICE) and based on a best practice model of treatment. Locality Teams in CAMHS SET-CAMHS focus on emotional wellbeing as well as mental health and include access to self-help tools and services based in schools and the community. Training and support are available to other professionals and agencies. We are creating a modern service that fits with children's lives in a way that best suits them. The service is driven by the principles underpinning the national CYP-IAPT programme (Children and Young People's Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) evidence-based interventions, routine measurement of outcomes, access to high-quality training and supervision for professionals, and true co-production with children and young people. Senior practitioners, along with the rest of the team, ensure that a high quality, timely, accessible, and evidence-based service is available to all children and young people who need it. This means establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships with wider social, health, and voluntary services.
