Single Cell Analytical Scientific Investigator

We are seeking motivated analytical scientists with single cell spatial omics expertise to join our dynamic and expanding Respiratory and Immunology Translational Research and work closely with stakeholders across GSK R&D including Human Genetics and Genomics, Omics Technologies and AIML.

You will focus on the processing, analysis and integration of diverse and complex single cell spatial omics data to impact translation of our targets to the clinic. In addition, you will be experienced in the development and optimisation of associated laboratory technologies. Your work will have application across our pipeline, from multi-omic characterisation of disease endophenotypes to biomarker discovery, efficacy evaluation and patient stratification. Ultimately you will contribute to the Cell Atlas approach in Drug Discovery and Development to accelerate projects in the portfolio with translational confidence.

The successful candidates will work in a multidisciplinary, collaborative and scientifically driven environment, interacting with GSK scientists and external collaborators to advance Drug Discovery and Clinical Development. Additionally, you will be encouraged and supported to continue to build your scientific profile through presentations, development programmes and peer-reviewed publications.

We are looking for this role to be based at Stevenage site only.

In this role you will...
  • Deliver innovative analysis and integration of single cell and spatial omics data with tangible impact on the GSK pipeline.
  • Develop and optimise single cell and spatial omics technologies in the lab.
  • Data processing (low and high level), management, data transfer, data governance, data stewardship.
  • Data curation, including identification, cataloguing and harmonisation of data.
  • Work collaboratively alongside computational biologists in the Human Genetics and Genomics Translational Omics team and within cross-functional project teams with GSK scientists and external collaborators, with an emphasis on immunology in the context of hepatology, respiratory, renal or CNS diseases.
  • Effectively communicate analysis findings, with expert translational interpretation, to project and disease area teams.

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
  • PhD or BSc and equivalent experience in computational biology, AIML, data science, computational sciences, bioinformatics or biomedical/biological sciences.
  • Experience of managing data workflows, including data curation from multiple sources.
  • Experience in a programming language (such as R or Python) for complex data analysis and a good working knowledge of common bioinformatics databases, resources and tools.
  • Experience of working directly with samples or processing samples through omics technologies, including expertise in the development and optimisation of single cell and spatial omics technologies.
  • Solid understanding of analytical and statistical methods relevant to large scale analysis of biological data sets.
  • Ability to work effectively and flexibly across multidisciplinary teams in a matrix environment.

Preferred Experience:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
  • Demonstrated experience in the analysis and integration of multi-omics data at the single cell level, including spatial distribution of gene expression within tissue or cell samples.
  • Experience in the analysis and integration of single cell genomic data linked to clinical phenotypes with multiple data types for reverse translation and/or patient stratification.
  • Experience in analysing and integrating data sets related to immunology in the context of hepatology, respiratory, renal or CNS diseases.
  • Skills to collect, integrate, mine and analyse complex biological data and translate them into testable hypotheses.
  • Experience in communicating complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
