The post holder has responsibility for co-ordinating the activities of the Endoscopy team to ensure the highest standard of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualised holistic patient care in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team encouraging an environment of empowerment through coaching, teaching and facilitating.

Receives guidance from the Endoscopy Manager on the day-to-day management of the ward budget and gains experience in deployment of staff and other resources to satisfy the needs of the service within financial constraints.

Manages the department in the absence of the department Sister/Charge Nurse.

Participate in the ongoing development of the Endoscopy Services.

Main duties of the job

To work as part of the MDT, Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating individualised plans of patient care. Effectively communicate with patients, relatives and other members of the endoscopy Team. Maintain a high standard of clinical work when carrying out nursing procedures and assisting endoscopist with therapeutic procedures. Ensure all policies and procedures are adhered to. Ensure all areas within the endoscopy unit are prepared safely and according to procedure. Ensure all technical equipment is checked prior to procedures and is in good working order. Keep up to date with COSHH regulations. Be aware of own individual responsibilities and training needs and keep up to date with mandatory training. Maintain a clean and safe environment and report any untoward incident. Respect patient's confidentiality. Keep accurate nursing records. Facilitate effective discharge planning alongside other members of the MDT. Cannulation and venepuncture are essential skills.

Personal Attributes & Skills

Essential

Demonstrate knowledge of dealing with conflict supporting staff through mechanisms such as clinical supervision. Demonstrate positive verbal and written communication skills with multidisciplinary team/client/relatives. Be interested and committed to caring for people from any culture and environmental background or illness.

Desirable

Demonstrate an understanding of leadership and empowerment issues. Experience of undertaking PDA's. Experience of managing sickness absence.

Qualifications/Training

Essential

RGN with current registration. Up-to-date knowledge of professional issues. Mentorship/Teaching Qualification. Demonstrate professional post-registration development. ILS.

Desirable

1st degree in nursing or working towards. Leadership Qualification. Evidence in academic achievement. Participate in management development courses. Endoscopy specific course.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

Endoscopy experience - competent in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including ERCP. Scope Roles relevant to post - cannulation, venepuncture. Evidence of learning and development in line with prep requirements. Evidence of department management under supervision. Experience working in co-ordinator role/leading the unit. Managing in-patient referrals. Development of knowledge and skills in Endoscopy.

Desirable

Previous Endoscopy management experience. Evidence of research-based practice.
