The Sister/Charge Nurse will by example and facilitation guide, assist and empower nursing staff in fulfilling their professional role using research-based practice.

Identify strengths and weaknesses of individual clinical practitioners and liaise with Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to construct an appropriate development programme.

Support the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse in the day-to-day management of the ward.

Main duties of the job

AMU is a 40 bedded unit with a 4 bedded Acute Care Bay. The unit's role is pivotal in the management of medical admissions to the Trust, and works closely with the Emergency Department and in-patients areas.

The Acute Medical Unit is actively committed to looking at ways to improve the patient experience, ensuring we create an environment where patients feel safe, cared for and confident in treatment they receive and strive to be the best provider in our class.

We are searching for dynamic, highly motivated and passionate individuals committed to supporting colleagues to provide high quality patient care within Assessment Unit. The post holder will be responsible for supporting the co-ordination of the unit, whist leading and developing a skilled workforce to deliver high quality patient centered care.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

Proven experience at Band 5 Evidence of ward/department management under supervision Development of knowledge and skills in speciality National and local nutritional initiatives/policies NICE guidelines pertinent to Nutritional care of patients / service delivery Up-to-date knowledge of professional issues

Desirable

Evidence of management responsibilities already undertaken Experience of carrying out and monitoring PDA process

Qualifications and Training

Essential

RN with current registration Teaching certificate (or evidence of working towards) Demonstrate professional post-registration development

Desirable

Post Registration educational development Participation in management development courses

Personal Attributes and Skills

Essential

Demonstrate good verbal communication skills with multidisciplinary team/clients/relatives Demonstrate the ability to deliver educational and clinical skills training Able to accommodate the demands of the post with flexible working practice as required with good attendance and high standards of clinical care Precise and methodical working practice and demonstrate ability to work and manage the ward day to day unsupervised

Desirable

Demonstrate knowledge of dealing with conflict supporting staff through mechanisms such as clinical supervision Provide evidence of supervisor/ implementation of teaching programmes for student nurses, eg preceptorship education, mentorship Evidence of change management and involvement in service development.
