There is an exciting opportunity to join our Acute and Rehabilitation team on the Stroke Recovery unit as a Band 6 Stroke Specialist Nurse. The Acute Stroke unit consists of 19 Stroke patient beds and 8 medical outlying beds.

The Unit provides acute and rehabilitative care for patients, working in a multi-professional team to ensure our patients receive person-centred care, treatment, and experience.

The post provides an exciting opportunity to develop your own skills as a senior nurse and support the Unit Manager, offering 24/7 senior nurse cover on the unit.

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team providing a diverse range of supportive nursing interventions. You will care for patients from the acute stage of their treatment to the rehabilitation stage and through to their discharge planning.

We are currently looking for enthusiastic, highly motivated Registered Stroke Specialist Nurses to work within our Stroke Unit at Rotherham Foundation Trust.

If you are a Registered Nurse Band 5 or Band 6 who is looking for a new challenge or promotion, then this may be the ideal opportunity for you. The aim of the Stroke Recovery unit is to provide holistic care for acute stroke patients and to ensure a safe repatriation back to our Hospital.

Main duties of the job A daily conference call highlighting Stroke patients who need to be repatriated on the day. You shall be working closely with the Clinical Site team to ensure that beds are available.

Excellent communication is vital as we work with a mixture of nursing teams, medics, and therapists. We aim to provide an individualised and supportive environment for patients in which to deliver this specialised care for patients following a stroke.

The role of the Stroke Specialist Nurse will be to provide specialist stroke care to acute stroke patients, working interdisciplinary with other professionals to achieve the best outcomes for the patients. You will work closely with Consultants in the running of TIA clinics, booking patients in for specific scans with face-to-face consultations, and you will also be required to advise GPs regarding TIA referrals and any new Stroke symptoms.

As the Stroke Specialist Nurse, you will also be required to assess any new suspected Stroke patients around the hospital.

Your leadership skills will ensure the stroke service runs efficiently as well as providing the development of high-quality stroke care services.

Your role will also have an element of education, which will consist of teaching sessions to colleagues of the MDT and Trust wide, as well as providing health education to patients and their relatives throughout their admission.

Person Specification Experience Desirable Experience in caring for patients who have had a stroke, preferably in an acute setting.

Qualifications Essential First degree in nursing and a portfolio of evidence. Evidence of professional/clinical knowledge in the area supplemented by specialist clinical, managerial training, and CPD e.g., Stroke diploma. Evidence of proactive involvement in the mentorship and development of nurses and nursing practice. Effective communicator able to communicate complex and sensitive information. Evidence of relevant involvement in meeting the Trust clinical governance objectives. Current level one NMC registration. Relevant learning beyond registration.

Desirable Completion of Non-Medical prescriber course.

Knowledge Essential Evidence of involvement and leadership in teaching and mentoring learners. Evidence of involvement in the development of protocols and clinical audit. Can demonstrate assertiveness, tact, and diplomacy appropriately. Policies, practices, and procedures e.g., NHS national policies, standards, requirements, and directions that relate to measuring and improving the quality and safety of patient care.

Desirable Equivalent level of knowledge acquired without formal course of study.
