An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Sister/ Charge Nurse on the Surgical Assessment Unit.

The Surgical Assessment Unit is composed of two units - 18 IP surgical beds and 30 assessment chairs for Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) that caters for multiple surgical specialities primarily General Surgery (Colorectal and Upper GI), ENT, Maxillo-Facial, Urology and Vascular. This is a continuously expanding unit with many opportunities for learning and self-development.

We are looking for an aspiring individual to join our highly skilled and competitive surgical team. A leader and a manager that has great influence to implement change at the forefront of positive patient experience.

Your role is to assist the Ward Manager in the overall management of the ward and the co-ordination of the team to ensure safe and effective standards of care is achieved. It is part of your responsibility to uphold the Trust values and behaviours in every action made - this involves both staff management and patient care.

Main duties of the job

Qualifications

Essential

Registered nurse with significant previous experience in acute surgical ward based care Evidence of maintaining professional portfolio and learning development

Desirable

Basic Life Support or Intermediate Life Support training Leadership and management experience Relevant trainings on leadership and management

Experience

Essential

Sound clinical practice within an acute surgical ward setting Evidence of mentoring qualification and experience Clinical experience in taking charge of day or night shifts

Desirable

Experience in leading and implementing project improvements Experience as a team leader Experience on same day emergency care pathway (SDEC) - care for surgical patients without the need for hospital admissions Bleep holding experience
