With responsibility for site reliability, you will be responsible for managing a flexible working shift Engineering team, supporting the delivery of safety-related topics in line with Nutreco Zero Harm policy.
Key responsibilities will include managing and organising a planned maintenance schedule to achieve maximum asset availability and taking ownership of improvement projects, managing contractors on site, and acting as a stand-in where required for the Engineering Manager. You will need to maintain the correct level of engineering support across the shifts and deliver a fast response to machine breakdowns.
In addition, you will launch and implement Operational Excellence Maintenance projects to improve and sustain asset performance and measure results.
Develop, implement, and manage engineering KPIs.
Main Job Responsibilities
Complete analysis on CMMS data, identify opportunities and launch OE PM Pillar maintenance projects to eradicate issues.
Analyse KPI data and manage performance to meet targets.
Analyse PPM reports and adjust frequencies and work instructions as required to optimise routines and improve asset reliability – measure results.
Manage the shift engineering teams to deliver engineering KPI targets.
Complete 1 to 1’s IDP’s and training plans for the shift engineers to develop and improve engineering performance.
Lead the shift maintenance teams, drive a continuous improvement culture in every activity, and demand high safety standards in every area.
Attend SIM meetings and ensure anomalies and recorded issues are logged and added to CMMS and followed up.
Coordinate works within hazardous areas across the site with a safety-first no-compromise approach – Zero Harm.
Deliver fast, effective electrical/mechanical fault finding by investigating the root cause of failures and implementing corrective measures.
Manage the completion of calibrations, PPM, and legislative activities across the site to schedule and ensure CMMS completion.
Create and maintain planned maintenance routines and work instructions SOP.
Coordinate shift activities, mandatory inspections, and optimise based on results.
Ensure all planned maintenance is up to date, planned in, and communicated to the wider teams via the Engineering Planner and CMMS.
Actively manage safety issues and communicate to the business what actions need to be undertaken to ensure that the plant/site is kept in a safe working condition.
Keep all engineering working areas clean and tidy by applying 5S principles.
Chair daily handover meetings and record apply to CMMS and follow up tracker.
Create/maintain spares inventories and maximise the Engineering Stores.
Be available to give technical assistance by phone when required.
Participate in all investment projects and development.
Manage external contracts and contractor activity.
Manage budget to meet target, negotiate and ensure best price for stock and ad hoc items.
Main Tasks
Day to day shift coordination/activity planning and work prioritisation.
Carrying out effective documented shift handovers and communication across all functions within the business and document on CMMS.
Maintaining records within the site maintenance system (calibrations, inspections, repairs, modifications, and breakdowns).
Optimise Maintenance and reliability by launching Maintenance OE projects.
Attend SIM and Area meetings to ensure timely feedback on engineering activity.
Carry out routine inspections and testing on plant operating systems.
Keep up to date with calibration requirements and records.
Evaluate the quantity and availability of spare parts required to be in stock to ensure high levels of equipment performance and availability; advise Engineering Manager of future requirements.
Manage contractors to carry out tasks safely as required via RAMS and PTW systems.
Identify training requirements to achieve continuous personal development.
Arrange additional running hours support.
Chair engineering meetings and conduct briefings as required.
Conduct and manage handover activities.
Ensure adherence to Lifesaving rules – LOTOTO, WAH & HOT WORK.
Competence Profile/Personal Requirements
Qualified time-served apprenticeship trained Multi-Skilled Engineer with an Electrical bias and strong mechanical skills. HNC, HND or equivalent desirable.
Experience of classified hazardous areas and ATEX equipment, CompEx Ex 05 – 06 or equivalent qualification a distinct advantage.
Track record of delivering sustainable improvements across multiple areas including Safety, PPM, Waste Reduction, and Plant performance within an FMCG or manufacturing environment.
Experience in food mills or similar manufacturing industries on automated raw material feed systems, auto weighing, bagging lines, LEV, packaging, and palletising equipment a distinct advantage.
Work at a competent level of expertise on PLCs, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
17th edition IEE wiring regulations certificate preferable.
Must be self-motivated, have a can-do attitude to take ownership of issues/deliver sustainable improvements, and be an effective team player with the ability to communicate across all functions within the business.
Previous training/skills in Fabrication, Welding, FLT, IPAF, PASMA, IOSH, WAH, NEBOSH confined space, abrasive wheels a distinct advantage.
Able to quickly react to issues and prioritise tasks based on situational circumstances.
Willing to be flexible to work weekends when required.
Must think outside of the box and be able to communicate under pressure to all levels.
