Our Rail Industry client is looking for a safety and environmental lead to support critical infrastructure upgrades whilst allowing existing rail operations to be delivered.
Can you:
Develop and implement risk-based systems and assurance processes
Create a culture of safety and sustainability deeply embedded across all site operations, including external contractor activities, as well as visitor interactions
Key Responsibilities
Safety Culture and Management
Champion the development of a robust safety culture
Develop and implement comprehensive health and safety procedures
Ensure compliance with applicable health and safety legislation and industry standards
Risk and Compliance
Develop and maintain a comprehensive suite of risk assessments covering all site activities
Identify health and safety training needs
Ensure staff have relevant accredited competencies for their roles
Contractor Management
Manage safety for third-party contractors, including:
Compliance with relevant regulations (i.e. CDM compliance)
Review and approval of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)
Issuance of site work permits
Incident and Safety Oversight
Investigate all site accidents, incidents, and near misses
Conduct site safety inspections and audits
Implement action tracking and ensure timely resolution of identified issues
Reporting and Communication
Produce monthly health, safety, and environmental performance reports
Develop safety alerts, bulletins, and notices
Conduct regular safety briefings and toolbox talks
Environmental Management
Develop, implement, and maintain an Environmental Management System
Achieve and maintain relevant environmental certification standards
Qualifications
Essential:
Occupational health and safety certification (NEBOSH General Certificate)
Risk assessment qualification
Railway Accident Investigation certification (based on RIS-3119-TOM Iss 3)
Desirable:
Internal auditor certification (ISO 9001:2015, 14001:2015 or 45001:2018)
Behavioural safety training
Knowledge Requirements:
Strong understanding of operational safety in critical infrastructure
Comprehensive knowledge of relevant safety legislation and industry standards
Key Skills and Experience
3-5 years of safety management experience in a safety-critical industry (railway desirable)
Proven track record in:
Developing safety and quality management systems
Mobilizing new operational sites
Establishing and maintaining a positive safety culture
Core Competencies

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Proactive approach to safety management
Ability to build and maintain effective relationships
Meticulous attention to detail
