About The Role We are offering an exciting and high-impact leadership opportunity for the role of SMR Operations Director at RAC. As part of our ambitious growth strategy, we are looking for a visionary leader to take the Service, Maintenance, and Repair (SMR) division on a journey of significant expansion and transformation. You’ll be at the forefront of scaling our mobile mechanics workforce to over 1000 skilled professionals, driving both operational excellence and exceptional customer service across the UK. As the driving force behind the operational strategy, you will play a crucial role in defining the direction of our SMR business and ensuring its growth, profitability, and service quality. What You’ll Do

Lead the creation and execution of the SMR operational strategy, setting bold ambitions and delivering significant growth over the next 5 years Drive the performance of our mobile mechanics division, ensuring outstanding customer outcomes and financial results Recruit, develop, and lead a team of 1000+ mechanics and inspectors, fostering a motivated and engaged workforce that delivers excellence Optimise day-to-day operations for maximum efficiency, ensuring both customer satisfaction and compliance with safety and quality standards Champion continuous improvement initiatives to drive service enhancements, operational efficiencies, and revenue growth Cultivate a safety-first culture, ensuring health and safety standards improve year on year across the operation Collaborate closely with key stakeholders in HR, finance, fleet, sales, and marketing to achieve business objectives and deliver seamless service Lead large-scale change projects that position the business for long-term success and scalability Develop and implement workforce engagement strategies to ensure a highly motivated, productive team Manage operational costs while driving the highest standards of service quality and compliance What you’ll need

An experienced & inspirational leader of field-based teams with a high drive for delivering results Able to demonstrate they have delivered strong performance through effectively motivating, engaging and coaching large teams Ability to challenge and influence at all levels, both internally and externally P&L operating experience Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills Experience of working on large scale change projects Successful track record of managing large service delivery teams Experience of interpreting data to drive operational performance improvements to commercial outcomes Benefits
