PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES: Good verbal and written communication skills Able to work independently and follow scheduled plans Respect for the rights of residents including the right to privacy, dignity, and the right to make choices Work in a person-centred way at all times Persuasive and lively personality Good listener, sympathetic & kind Observant Even-tempered & patient Creative, imaginative, and innovative Adaptable & flexible Calm under stress RESPONSIBILITIES: GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION: To undertake social activities and diversional activities within the home under the direction of the Head of Social Care to promote occupation and well-being. Supervise in lounges and corridors to help reduce falls and altercations. Record data from the activities provided. Observance of health and safety requirements. Complete all required mandatory training. DAY TO DAY DUTIES: Check diary for planned activities/entertainment on a daily basis. Keep residents and staff up to date on planned activities and events. Ensure birthdays are celebrated. Facilitate external entertainers and ensure all residents are invited. Keep updated in different aspects of activities. Facilitate and deliver group activities, individual activities, and keep records of all activities provided. Liaise with families to celebrate special occasions. Facilitate the spiritual needs of residents. Make photographic records of activities being enjoyed. Help and assist residents with breakfast and lunches in the lounge and communal areas (not in rooms). Help with afternoon tea in the lounge and communal areas (not in rooms) and assist residents in the lounge and communal areas at supper time (not in rooms). TASKS FOR GROUP ACTIVITIES: Ensure the area to be used for activity is free. Set area up as needed for the type of activity planned. Remind nursing staff of activities planned and residents who wish to attend. Assist with transporting residents to the activity area. Follow the instructions for the activity as directed, checking the Risk Assessment, and be aware of individuals' cognitive, emotional, and social impairments, adjusting activities accordingly to promote inclusive and diverse practice. Observe individual resident participation and responses during the activity. Assist residents back to their living areas after the conclusion of the activity. Notify nurses of resident’s behaviors which may indicate medical problems. TASKS FOR INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITIES: Interact appropriately and effectively in a one-to-one activity according to the resident’s strengths and limitations. Be aware of individuals' cognitive, emotional, and social impairments, and adjust activity accordingly to promote inclusive and diverse practice. Complete record sheets of activity and participation and responses of each resident and return them to the activity coordinator. Ensure all activity is documented in individual record folders and on CMS. You may be asked to do additional jobs as needed to ensure the smooth running of the Home.
