About the Team

This is a role working across two teams. It is based within Ofcom's friendly and expert Communications team - previously judged by PR Week as the best place to work in-house in the UK. The role also involves working closely with other teams, primarily Ofcom's new Online Safety Supervision team.

Ofcom's Online Safety Group works to ensure UK citizens live a safer life online, putting in place world-leading regulation to help make services safer for adults and children.

The Supervision Team sits within the Online Safety Group and its role is to manage Ofcom's relationships with regulated services. Our Team provides close, structured engagement with many of the world's best-known social media, search and entertainment sites and apps, as well as smaller services.

Clear communications to these companies about what their new online safety responsibilities are, what action they need to take and by when, are crucial. We are looking for an expert communicator to help us deliver this.

The sectors Ofcom regulates are evolving fast, making this an exciting time to join our team. And the role is flexible: we are open to either full-time or part-time candidates, and we offer hybrid working tied to a choice of offices in London, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Belfast, or Manchester.

Your key responsibilities

Using your expertise in B2B communications, you will help us build awareness of the new online safety rules among services in scope of the Act. You will work closely with our communications and online safety teams to deliver this work.

Develop an understanding of our main B2B audiences for online safety, their needs and the barriers they face, to help Ofcom identify opportunities to reach them.

Act as a point of connection between Ofcom's communications and online safety colleagues, and an external agency.

Working with the agency to source relevant content opportunities and develop content aimed at online services.

Work in partnership with the agency to manage the logistics of our B2B campaign work - ensuring content is developed, approved and delivered as planned.

Support delivery of a range of industry-targeted activities to educate services about the steps they need to take to comply with new regulations - including events, social media and written content.

Translate complex information into simple and effective content for digital channels.

Work effectively with a range of colleagues with expertise in communications, online safety, and behavioural insight.

Develop and foster online expertise across Ofcom's online safety programme and keep across online trends and technological developments.

The skills, knowledge and experience you will need for success

Job based skills:

Experience delivering B2B digital communications campaigns.

Excellent writing skills, with the ability to edit and bring to life complex content to make it accessible to a wide range of audiences.

Expertise in delivering paid and organic content across social media platforms, with a particular understanding of LinkedIn.

Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of digital communications, with an understanding of analytics and how these can be used to improve performance.

Creative skills - the ability to create simple graphics or video for social, or willingness to learn.

Great organisational skills, including experience of planning and prioritising your own workload.

Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills, including the ability to represent your team in meetings with stakeholders.

Grade based skills:

Articulating Ideas: You'll have excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to get complex information across clearly and concisely.

Forming Relationships: You'll have experience of reaching out to build collaborative relationships with others, including more senior colleagues and external stakeholders.

Executing Plans: You'll have an ability to juggle a diverse workload and respond to changing priorities.

Desirable:

Interest and/or knowledge of online safety regulation in the UK and beyond - and Ofcom's mission to create a safer life online.

Experience working for a B2B communications agency.

Experience working in communications in the Technology sector.

Ofcom has a clear mission: to make communications work for everyone. To be able to deliver on this, we want our organisation to reflect the diversity of background, experience, upbringing and thought that exists across the UK. We aim to recruit from the widest pool of candidates possible - no matter your social background, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender or disability.

Where positions are listed as full-time, we remain open to reduced hours, part-time arrangements, job shares, and other flexible working options. From day one, we champion flexible work arrangements to accommodate individual needs.

We also warmly welcome applicants who are returning to the workforce after a break - for whatever reason. If you have taken time away and are ready to rejoin, we look forward to reviewing your application.

Our recruitment processes prioritise accessibility and inclusivity. If you need information in an alternative format or have specific preferences, please contact our recruitment team at resourcing@ofcom.org.uk or call 0330 912 1378.

As a Disability Confident employer, we offer interviews to disabled applicants who meet essential criteria for advertised roles.
