The Fostering Service in Middlesbrough has an exciting opportunity to recruit an experienced social worker as part of the supervision and support (retention team). Social Workers within the fostering service have the responsibility of assessing, supporting, and supervising foster carers. To help us recruit social workers who are committed to working in Middlesbrough, we are currently offering a 15% supplement to social work salaries. This additional 15% will be reviewed at the end of October 2024. As a creative, resilient, and responsible member of our team, you will be helping to create happy homes for children, young people, and their carers. We work closely with social workers for our children who are Looked After. Along with our colleagues, we have a responsibility for securing permanence for children with plans of adoption, long-term fostering, and special guardianship orders. Social Workers work closely with partners as corporate parents to support children to develop their life skills, achieve their full potential, and work towards their aspirations. This is an exciting time of change within the service, which is both rewarding and challenging. Middlesbrough is a fantastic place, proud of its heritage and ambitious enough to shape an entirely different future. We have set out our city-scale plans to deliver over GBP 600 million of investment that will promote economic growth and strengthen both our regional and national reputation as a destination of choice. Our ambition for our children and young people is equally high, with a workplace culture that has high expectations, high challenge, and high support. Following a challenging inspection, we are pleased to be working with our children, young people, and their families, our employees, and partner agencies to transform our social work practices and make a difference to the lives of the families and young people of Middlesbrough. Why work for Middlesbrough? You will join our fast-paced, dynamic team of social workers, bringing the right skills, knowledge, and values to Middlesbrough. If you want to be part of the transformation making a real difference to people’s lives, you will be passionate about working with children, operate with integrity, and have a strong focus to keep children safe in Middlesbrough. Alongside the vast range of benefits, social workers in Middlesbrough will also have a managed caseload with strong support and regular supervision from Managers. Based in the centre of Middlesbrough, you can benefit from free parking and flexible working with varying patterns including working 9 in 10 days or 4 in 5, giving greater work-life balance to our practitioners. At Middlesbrough Council, we are also dedicated to our employees’ health and wellbeing and have recently been awarded maintaining excellence in the Better Health at Work. You will be registered with Social Work England and prepared to work in various locations throughout Middlesbrough. There may be some requirement to work outside of the Middlesbrough area to assess and support foster carers. The above post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
