As part of this journey, we are looking for a dynamic and customer-focused Software Asset Manager to join the team.

The Software Licensing team is crucial to ensuring that all licenses and agreements are managed and budgeted correctly, and renewed in a timely way, aligned to University objectives.

As Software Asset Manager, you will lead the team to oversee and optimise the organisation's software portfolio, ensuring compliance with licensing agreements and regulations. Tracking software usage, managing licenses, and implementing strategies to minimise costs while maximising the efficiency of software assets. What will you be doing?

Proactively manage both the day-to-day work and overall performance and delivery of the team, ensuring they deliver an effective service to the University. Maintain oversight and ensure adherence to software licensing agreements and regulatory requirements to avoid legal and financial risks. Ensure team compliance in maintaining an up-to-date inventory of software assets, tracking licenses, versions, and usage across the organisation. Identify opportunities to reduce software costs by optimizing license usage, negotiating favourable agreements, and eliminating unnecessary licenses. Engage with software vendors to negotiate contracts, understand licensing terms, and stay informed about updates or changes to licensing models. Develop and implement policies and procedures for the acquisition, deployment, and use of software assets within the organisation. Conduct regular audits to ensure that software usage aligns with licensing agreements and organisational policies. Identify and address potential compliance and security risks associated with software usage, taking proactive measures to mitigate these risks. Provide guidance and training to employees on software usage policies and best practices to ensure compliance. Oversee the entire lifecycle of software assets, from acquisition to retirement, including proper disposal and data security measures. Generate comprehensive reports and maintain accurate documentation on software usage, license status, and compliance for management and auditing purposes. Collaborate with Business Stakeholders, Finance, and IT teams to develop budgets for software expenses and provide forecasts based on future needs and usage trends. Stay updated on industry trends, software licensing models, and emerging technologies to continuously improve software asset management processes and strategies within the organisation. Significant experience managing software assets in a large complex organisation. Specialist expertise in licensing agreements and compliance. Experience in report writing. Qualified to Degree / HND level in a relevant subject (or equivalent experience and training) with substantial industry experience. A demonstrable working knowledge of ITIL equivalent to Foundation Level. Leadership and people management skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team. Knowledge and understanding of the principles, theory, and practices of IT Services delivery, as well as an awareness of broader/relevant information technologies. Demonstrates ability to maintain effective relations with service suppliers to achieve successful issue resolution.
