Flexible working arrangements may be considered and discussions with the recruiting manager regarding this are encouraged. An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Radiology Department at Birmingham Women's Hospital for an enthusiastic and well-motivated sonographer to join our dedicated team at Birmingham Women's and Children's Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We are seeking to recruit a highly skilled Sonographer/Midwife Sonographer to join our dynamic and welcoming staff, to promote and deliver a family-focused and user-friendly radiology service. The post holder will be based at Birmingham Women's Hospital and will have recent clinical experience and knowledge in obstetric and/or gynaecological ultrasound, always using best practice, and promoting a positive patient experience and environment. The work is varied, enabling a good scope of advanced practice including obstetrics, gynaecology, abdominal, and paediatric ultrasound. We positively support professional and personal development, and there is the potential for candidates who do not fully meet the person specification to be appointed and be given the opportunity to develop their skills. Upon an application being submitted, the department encourages applicants to arrange an informal site visit. The standard operational hours are Monday to Friday 08:30 - 17:00. Full-time hours and part-time hours are available, and extended days/flexible working hours will be considered. Participation in out-of-hours work will also be required.

The aim of this role is to work as an independent Sonographer, performing all aspects of obstetric and/or gynaecological ultrasound examinations to a high standard, formulating concise and accurate reports, and communicating results to the appropriate clinician. In this manner, delivering a safe, effective, and efficient service that meets both patient/families/carers and staff requirements.

The post holder will:

Prioritise, justify and manage workload as an individual and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Provide theoretical and clinical training for Trainee Sonographers and Specialist Registrars. Work collaboratively with clinical, managerial, and admin colleagues to develop and enhance ultrasound imaging services. Be responsible on a rotational basis for leading the shift, undertaking a coordinating role for the day-to-day planning and delivery of the department's operational workload. This person will be expected to deputise for the clinical manager in their absence. Be responsible for own CPD and professional and personal development through personal study, reflection, attendance at MDT meetings, and ultrasound education meetings. Follow policies, procedures, and protocols relating to and underpinning the ultrasound service in line with national guidance.
