Specialist Biomedical Scientist Band 6 Job overview The University Hospital of North Midlands, Mid Cheshire and East Cheshire NHS Trusts are working collaboratively to form a Pathology network in line with a NHSI directive.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic HCPC registered Specialist BMS to join our team. You must be a strong team player who has a positive attitude to change. You must have excellent organisational and communication skills. The successful applicant will work as part of a team of virology and bacteriology staff based at the Royal Stoke University Hospital site.

The Infection Science Department at Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent provides a comprehensive range of diagnostic and clinical services for two acute Hospitals, local GUM clinics and a wide range of community based health providers.

The Bacteriology department is equipped with Vitek2, UF-5000i, MS PRIME, BACT/ALERT VIRTUO, BDMax and WASPLab. The hours of work for this post will be 37.5 hours per week over a 24/7 period. Applicants will be expected to have significant bacteriology experience preferably in an NHS Lab.

Main duties of the job

Work as part of a team in the Bacteriology department.

Provide diagnostic and clinical services.

Utilize laboratory equipment effectively.

Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

Person specification Qualifications

Biomedical Science Degree

IBMS post-graduate Specialist Diploma

Registered with HCPC

Evidence of CPD

Experience

Minimum of 2 years post registration experience

Experience working with complex, specialist equipment

Experience of Pathology IT systems

Experience working in an acute trust

Experience working in a busy laboratory

Skills and knowledge

Able to work as part of a team

Knowledge of Laboratory Health & Safety regulations and governing bodies

Good oral and written communication

Ability to work to SOPs, review and contribute to their implementation

Ability to analyse and problem solve
