We are seeking an experienced and qualified HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist to join the Public Health Wales Screening Division Laboratory as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, based at Magden Park in Llantrisant. This is a permanent post and is an exciting opportunity to become involved in delivering world-class screening programmes as part of Public Health Wales. The ideal candidate will need to be adaptable, enthusiastic, well-motivated and innovative, with good organisational and practical abilities. The post holder will require excellent interpersonal and communication skills. We are looking for candidates to support our multidisciplinary team and would welcome interest from candidates with suitable experience in cytology, virology or biochemistry. The NHSCSP Certificate in Cervical Cytology is desirable, but training towards this qualification will be provided if needed as this will be an essential requirement of the role. Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be a key member of the laboratory team. They will act as a deputy section lead for the cytology screening room and liquid based cytology processing lab, working closely with the Senior Biomedical Scientist leading the section. They will be responsible for supporting the routine operations of the Laboratory, providing support to the wider Biomedical Scientist team and supervising laboratory support staff. The candidate will be expected to participate in training, quality management and service development activities. Public Health Wales Screening Division Laboratory is based in the Screening Centre, Magden Park, Llantrisant. It provides testing services to two of the key national screening programmes; Cervical Screening Wales and Bowel Screening Wales. It provides a cervical HPV testing and cytology screening service alongside faecal immunochemical testing (FIT) testing for bowel screening. The laboratory works closely with the screening programmes to deliver high quality screening services to the population of Wales. The laboratory also offers additional services, including Symptomatic FIT testing supporting several Health Boards across Wales. The laboratory is UKAS ISO15189 accredited and IBMS approved for training. About us

Qualifications

Biomedical Science Degree or equivalent qualifications acceptable for HCPC registration IBMS Specialist portfolio or equivalent experience in relevant area (cytology, microbiology, biochemistry) Evidence of HCPC registration in Biomedical Sciences Demonstrate evidence of continuous professional and personal development Previous experience of cytology screening (NHSCSP Certificate or equivalent) Experience

Significant post registration training/experience in a HCPC registered laboratory developing a good understanding of specialist techniques Experience of working within an ISO 15189:2012 accredited (or equivalent) quality management system Experience of training and supervising junior staff Experience of quality management, including audit procedures and EQA systems Skills

Proven ability to work independently, reliably and efficiently Ability to communicate scientific/clinical information orally, in writing or electronically to work colleagues, or external contacts Ability to speak Welsh Knowledge

Demonstrable comprehensive knowledge and understanding of routine and specialist procedures Understands and can apply the principles and standards of good laboratory practice Knowledge of Screening Programmes Disclosure and Barring Service Check
