The Royal Cornwall hospital is the sole provider of pathology services for Cornwall and is currently looking for a motivated, band 6 specialist biomedical scientist to become part of our team in the busy, professional and friendly Haematology, Coagulation and Blood Transfusion Department on a 12 month fixed term contract to cover maternity. The successful candidate will be HCPC registered and completed or making good progress towards Specialist Portfolio or equivalent, with an interest in Haematology and / or Blood Transfusion; they will rotate through all sections, covering the full range of Haematology and Blood Transfusion.
Main duties of the job
Our laboratory has full ISO 15189 Accreditation status and the Transfusion laboratory is fully MHRA compliant. The laboratory is equipped with Abbott Alinity full blood count analysers, Werfen Coagulation TOP analysers, Grifols Erytra blood grouping analysers and access to Sebia capillary electrophoresis for haemoglobinopathy and antenatal sickle cell and thalassaemia screening. The hospital is a Haemostasis Centre with the laboratory undertaking advanced coagulation thrombotic and haemorrhagic investigations. We also undertake basic male fertility screening within the department working closely with the Cornwall Centre for Reproductive Medicine.
You will be expected to participate in a shift out of hours rota covering evenings, nights and weekends.
You will have access to our experienced Training Officer and further training is encouraged and supported. The position offers the opportunity to become a valued member of our friendly team in a county renowned for its beaches and stunning scenery.
