To work within a team of Children's physiotherapists and occupational therapists with babies, children and young people with neurodisabilities.

Treatment sessions are conducted in the Child development centre, nurseries, special and mainstream schools and within the home.

Main duties of the job

To assess babies, children and young people with neurodisabilities. To set collaborative goals and set up a management plan which may include specialist postural management equipment.

Job responsibilities

To act as a specialist clinician for the Childrens Therapy Service, supporting the clinical leads with developing and embedding best practice into the service whilst managing own specialist caseload and records. To undertake a defined range of high standard professional duties, within the Childrens Therapy Team, working within a range of settings such as clinics, nurseries, schools and the home.

To carry out specialist assessments of babies and children with a range of neuro-developmental, neuro-muscular and neurological disabilities to develop an individualised treatment programme.

To carry out specialist physiotherapeutic interventions to babies and children underpinned by the best available evidence and to educate and advise parents/carers to actively participate in the management of long term conditions.

To share supervision with a more experienced practitioner and assess the performance of assistant practitioners, unqualified staff, peers and colleagues of junior rank or less experience, and physiotherapy students.

To hold responsibility for own case load working without direct supervision and within clearly defined operational policies and procedures.

To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner, working within the ethical framework provided by the rules of professional conduct.

To undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further own and teams clinical practice. Make recommendations to clinical lead for changes to practice by the team. May lead the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service protocols.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Degree in Physiotherapy Studies HCPC registered

Desirable

Studied at Masters level or equivalent Member of Special Interest Group eg APCP

Experience

Essential

Substantial post-graduate experience, including recent experience in the NHS Previous rotations/ experience within Paediatrics Recent experience demonstrating ability to assess, treat and evaluate care in paediatrics Evidence of MDT working

Desirable

Experience of developing others

Skills

Essential

Good communication and organisational skills Competent in core areas of Physiotherapy practice Competent IT skills

Knowledge

Essential

Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality

Attendance on external post-graduate courses
