An exciting opportunity has arisen for registered Midwives to join the Maternity Services of Swansea Bay University Health Board as Band 6 Midwives. There are various full time and part time posts available across our Obstetric Unit. Successful applicants must have knowledge and experience of all aspects of Midwifery practice and will be expected to provide supportive care to women throughout all stages of pregnancy. Main duties of the job The post holder will be expected to provide supportive care to women throughout all stages of pregnancy and childbirth either within a geographical area or the hospital setting. Ensuring women have access to midwifery support, expertise and advice on a 24-hour basis. The post holder is designated to take charge regularly of a ward or equivalent sphere of midwifery. The post holder will maintain active NMC registration meeting all revalidation requirements. Detailed job description and main responsibilities Swansea Bay University Health Board covers a population of around 390,000 in Neath/Port Talbot and Swansea areas and we have a budget of around £1bn. Located in the heart of the amazing coastline of Swansea Bay, the University Health Board is the main provider of elective and acute hospital services for the population of West Wales. The University Health Board’s catchment stretches from the fringes of the lush dramatic landscape of the Neath Valley and the stunningly beautiful Gower coast to the bustling University City of Swansea and surrounding areas. Whilst our hospitals and clinics provide the care and treatments for the population, our locations provide the respite and recharge spaces that support positive long term health and wellbeing. Singleton Hospital, overlooking Swansea Bay, hosts a range of maternity services across the site. These include: Antenatal clinics Day assessment unit Ante-natal ward Midwifery led bay birth unit Labour ward Post natal ward Obstetric theatre Close links with our tertiary neonatal unit on site and transitionary care unit on antenatal ward. Alongside Singleton Hospital, we have a Community Midwifery Team who support patients in the community. Neath/Port Talbot Hospital was opened in 2003 and has roughly 200 beds. Our Maternity services in NPT comprise of: Ante-natal clinics Day Assessment Unit Midwifery Led Unit We also have a Community Midwifery Team in Neath/Port Talbot who will support patients in the community. Person specification Qualifications Appropriate registration with NMC Educated to degree level Completion of the new Midwives competency programme - if applicable Evidence of recent CPD Experience Experience of clinical practice Experience of teaching and supporting others Ability to work alone or part of a team Knowledge and understanding of current maternity service issues Evidence of multi-disciplinary working Skills and Abilities Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills Demonstrate diplomacy, empathy and neutrality Ability to utilise knowledge of senior staff & the clinical supervisors for midwives Leadership, negotiation and consultation skills Ability to practice and contribute to evidence based care Personal Attributes Ability to motivate and promote team working Open and approachable High level of personal integrity Flexible approach and ability to work in either unit of the Health Board and in working patterns Swansea Bay University Health Board is committed to supporting its staff and processes to fully embrace the need for bilingualism thereby enhancing service users experience.
