Robertson Neurological Rehabilitation Unit: Specialist Neurological Occupational Therapist (Neuro/Stroke Rehabilitation) B6 An exciting opportunity has arisen within our in-patient neurological rehabilitation service at Willesden Centre for Health and Care. We are looking for a band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the Occupational Therapy team and wider MDT at Robertson Neurological Rehabilitation Unit. This is a service for the rehabilitation of people with Stroke and other neurological conditions. We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join the team, who has the passion and skills for delivering, and maintaining in the team, a high standard of specialist neurological rehabilitation. You will be working with a dedicated multidisciplinary team that includes Physiotherapists, Medical team lead by the Consultant, Clinical Neuropsychologists, Nurses, Dietitian, Rehabilitation Assistants, Speech and Language therapists and Social Workers. Independently manage a clinical caseload, conducting OT assessments and delivering tailored treatment/management programmes. Take an active role in discharge planning and order suitable equipment as appropriate and conduct access/visits as necessary. Collaborate with senior Occupational Therapists and other MDT on complex cases, providing specialised assessments and treatment plans. Advise and educate patients and carers, ensuring informed consent and compliance with legal frameworks. Address language barriers and consider cultural diversity in patient care. Adhere to stroke guidelines and professional standards, continuously updating and evaluating practice. Manage clinical risk within the caseload and maintain accurate patient records, including electronic systems. Build strong relationships within the multidisciplinary team; participate in handovers and discharge planning. Promote patient rights, dignity, and choice at all times. Delegate tasks to support workers, ensuring accountability for their work. Communicate effectively with patients and care teams, liaising with hospital and community resources for continuity of care. Serve as key worker for patients with complex discharge needs. Use verbal and non-verbal communication tools to support patients with difficulties during rehabilitation. Represent the Occupational Therapy service in multidisciplinary meetings, integrating intervention into the rehabilitation programme. About us

Education/Qualification

Registration with HCPC. Experience of working with neurological patients in delivery of rehabilitation packages or in a rehab setting at Band 5 level. Documented evidence of professional development and reflective practice in relevant aspects of neurological rehabilitation e.g. attendance at in-service training sessions, reflective practice. Attendance at relevant post-graduate neurological training courses e.g. Bobath, spasticity management, splinting, cognition and perceptual assessment, fatigue management. Experience of working in a neurological rehabilitation setting at band 6 level. Experience

Ability and experience of carrying out a comprehensive neurological occupational therapy assessment to formulate a comprehensive neurological treatment plan and goals. Knowledge and experience of using a wide range of therapeutic occupational therapy interventions for the treatment of patients with neurological conditions. Knowledge and experience of using a range of recognised outcome measures and goal setting skills as appropriate to the rehabilitation of patients with a range of neurological conditions. Good understanding of current NHS issues, professional standards, CPD, clinical governance. Able to work as an autonomous practitioner. Clinical problem-solving ability. Knowledge of Occupational Therapy models of practice. Understand professional ethics and their application in practice. Experience of supervising and appraising other staff e.g. rehabilitation assistants. Experience of supervising student occupational therapists. Experience in delivering training to other members of the MDT and care workers. Understanding of clinical governance and the implications for the service. Delegated management responsibilities within service area. Skills and Knowledge

Knowledge of barriers to communication and strategies to overcome them, including knowledge of communication difficulties encountered by neurological patients. Ability to carry out patient manual handling tasks. Ability to carry equipment such as wheelchair and commodes in and out of stores/car and patient’s homes. Able to facilitate self-management behaviour-change skills in patients. A good ability with specific handling and sensory techniques specific to the treatment of patients with neurological dysfunction. Physical skills, dexterity, coordination, and sensory skills for assessment and manual treatment of patients. Disclosure and Barring Service Check
