Hywel Dda University Health Board has a rare opportunity to appoint an experienced child safeguarding practitioner to the Corporate Safeguarding Team. We are seeking a self-motivated individual to provide an effective leadership and support function which enables the Health Board to discharge its duties in accordance with safeguarding legislation and duties.

The Health Board has a dedicated Safeguarding Team consisting of a small group of friendly practitioners working across the spectrum of safeguarding, including children, adults, violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence (VAWDASV) and Looked After Children working across Hywel Dda and forms part of the Health Board Corporate Nursing Team. The position of Safeguarding Practitioner for children enables a unique, interesting and challenging role as part of the wider corporate team.

Main duties of the job

Working with minimal supervision, the successful applicant will be accountable for utilising their specialist knowledge, analytical and curiosity skills to provide leadership, guidance, support, safeguarding supervision and training to health professionals. The post holder will embrace a person-centred approach and promote the wellbeing and safety of children and adults. The post holder will also be required to utilise their specialist knowledge and skills to provide advice, guidance, support, safeguarding supervision and training to health professionals. You will empower staff in their identification and decision-making processes when confronted with possible child and/or adult abuse and neglect and ensure good quality safeguarding reports are submitted to children services. The post holder will contribute to ensuring effective systems are in place for learning and sharing lessons both internally and with statutory partners. Lead on safeguarding audit providing reports to the Named Nurse and Head of Safeguarding in order to provide assurance and to improve service provision. The post holder will represent Hywel Dda University Health Board at multi-agency meetings in respect of safeguarding issues, including MARAC, Child and Adult Safeguarding meetings, PRUDiC meetings.

Experience of providing supervision to health professionals Experience in the development of audit tools, audit and service evaluation Experience in the development and delivery of training programmes to senior health professionals and managers

Qualifications and Knowledge

NMC Registration SCPHN qualification Knowledge of child and adult safeguarding processes Professional knowledge acquired through Degree, supplemented by specialist training. Relevant Master's Degree or experience to an equivalent level Evidence of continuing professional development Knowledge of local and regional partner agencies Safeguarding supervision experience and training Detailed knowledge and understanding of current issues and legislation relating to safeguarding and Mental Capacity and Liberty Protection Safeguards Detailed knowledge of Violence against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence, MARAC process, Honour Based Violence, Child Sexual Exploitation and Modern Day Slavery, Prevent and Channel processes.
