This is an exciting opportunity for a long-term position within this well-established and respected regional service, which provides Electronic Assistive Technology equipment for those eligible throughout North London, Hertfordshire and Luton. The service operates from a dedicated facility at Mount Vernon Hospital site (HA6 2RN) of the Hillingdon Hospital trust, providing a comfortable work environment.

We are looking for a motivated and innovative individual who would like to make a real difference to people's lives through the provision of Environmental Control Systems and computer access equipment, enabling the most severely disabled members of our society to regain and remain in control of their immediate home environment and social participation.

An interest in enabling people to use technology for living independently is required. Experience of working with those with severe neurological and other physical disabilities is also essential. A confidence with technology is beneficial, although full training on equipment will be provided. Travel to community home visits within the designated area is a significant part of the role and a driving licence is also essential.

Main duties of the job Experience job variety and a high level of case autonomy within a supportive multi-disciplinary team, as you will be visiting clients in their homes, undertaking complex assessments, and coordinating equipment provision in conjunction with suppliers and other specialist and community services. You will be involved in providing training to other professionals, patients, and family, and in evaluating the effectiveness of equipment provision to meet client-centred goals. This post is therefore an opportunity to gain valuable experience in working with patients with complex disabilities and their families and to liaise with other local and regional services.

Most contact with patients will be through community home visits, but is also undertaken remotely by video consultation and phone. Agile computer working has been adopted allowing desk-based activities to be undertaken at base and where suitable at home by agreement.

Confidence with the use of standard computer Office applications and clinical systems is helpful. Administrative and data systems support for the role is provided through the multidisciplinary team of the service, which also includes Rehabilitation Engineers, Technicians and access to a Rehabilitation Medicine Consultant.

About us We are looking for candidates who: Have HCPC registration. Have experience at NHS Band 6 level, including rotations within neurological rehabilitation or experience treating patients with various aetiologies, especially neurological conditions. Are hardworking, adaptable, possess high-level communications skills, initiative and self-motivation. Have a full UK driving licence.

Offered package is Full Time 37.5 hours per week (across five days) or by negotiation for an altered pattern of working and/or part-time working to a minimum of 0.80wte. We may also consider a suitable applicant for training into this position.

Person Specification Essential Educated to graduate level or equivalent in Occupational Therapy. Current HCPC Registration. MSc or evidence of Equivalent Experience and/or Postgraduate training in Neurological, Rehabilitation or other related specialist field. Full UK Driving licence and eligibility to drive. Extensive post registration experience, at least 2 years in a neurological setting at Senior level. Evidence of theoretical and practical learning in previous posts leading to highly specialist level within the specialty. Evidence of appraisal & supervision of staff and occupational therapy students. Experience working as part of an occupational therapy team and/or multidisciplinary team. Experience of training staff, students, and peers. Evidence of participation in service development programmes/audit. Evidence of experience in specialist equipment provision. Use of OT and Multi-disciplinary outcome measures and goal setting. Knowledge of Clinical Governance and other current drivers & guidelines affecting practice. Awareness of safeguarding responsibilities and identifying areas of concern. Highly specialist skills in the treatment and management of patients with neurological disability.

Desirable Membership of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists. Membership of Special interest group. Attendance on advanced clinical courses relevant to the field e.g. Electronic assistive technology. Previous experience in research. Sound knowledge of current health policy related to specialism. Understanding of dynamics and complexities of the NHS environment. Experience of prescribing highly specialist equipment (e.g. Electronic assistive technology). Familiarisation with operational configuration of computers (Windows) and Smart devices (e.g. of accessibility settings). Demonstrated interest in various types of Assistive Technology and technological advances to provide enablement and independence.
