Main duties of the job To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients. With support from the Band 7 occupational therapist, the post holder will organise their clinical time effectively and efficiently, utilising clinical reasoning to prioritise. To undertake the assessment of paediatric patients, including those with a complex presentation, and to formulate individualised management and treatment plans using clinical reasoning based on available evidence and/or best practice guidelines. Following assessment, to refer to other colleagues within the MDT and in the community where appropriate. To be responsible for maintaining competency to practice through reflective practice and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities. This will involve keeping up to date with current clinical practice and new developments and incorporating them as necessary into clinical work. The post holder will also be encouraged to maintain a portfolio/learning record which reflects personal development commensurate with this level. To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of work. To represent the Trust regarding Occupational Therapy Services provided to patients within assigned clinical areas. To work as part of the Occupational Therapy Team to develop and improve as a service.

Academic/Professional qualification/Training Essential Degree or equivalent qualification in Occupational Therapy Health and Care Professions Council registration
Desirable Post graduate training in standardised occupational therapy assessment and evidence-based interventions
Experience/Knowledge Essential Previous experience as an OT working with children with developmental conditions, providing therapy that focuses on occupational performance. Experience of paediatric postural management including assessment for wheelchairs and specialist seating. Experience of assessing for and recommending/providing specialist equipment to enable engagement in activities of daily living and support participation. Knowledge of child development and the impact of medical conditions on typical developmental trajectories and occupational performance.
Desirable Knowledge and understanding of housing adaptations, including feasibility of proposed solutions. Awareness of national initiatives and legislation pertaining to Health and Social Care and the relevance to Occupational Therapy provision within a tertiary setting. Experience of active involvement in clinical support networks relevant to paediatric occupational therapy.
Skills/Abilities Essential Able to work cooperatively and constructively to facilitate good relationships across different professions. Ability to prioritise own workload within the context of competing demands across separate wards or departments. Ability to supervise and mentor students and support workers. Ability to clinically reason recommendations for equipment. Well-developed organisation, computer and time management skills. Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Desirable Knowledge translation skills that support development of an evidence-based service. Ability to identify appropriate areas for quality improvement within both clinical and professional spaces. Skills required to contribute to departmental audits and to engage in team research projects.
