The landscape for cancer care in the NHS is changing with a bigger emphasis on earlier diagnosis and improving outcomes for all patients living with and beyond cancer as directed by the 2019 NHS Long Term Plan. In response to changing needs within the local service and national directive, an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist to join the team has arisen. This post will appeal to a candidate with an interest and experienced background in oncology, who has or wants to develop their practice in the subspecialty in musculoskeletal malignancies. The Montgomery Unit is one of 5 specialist units in the England to diagnose and treat bone and soft tissue sarcomas, bony metastases, and other tumour-like conditions of the musculoskeletal system. We form part of the Greater Manchester and Oswestry Sarcoma Service (GMOSS). We are looking to recruit to a Band 7 Specialist Occupational Therapist in Musculoskeletal Oncology. The successful candidate will demonstrate leadership, educational, developmental and advocacy components and be able to influence care delivery within the Trust, with the aim of advancing service delivery to our cohort of patients. The post holder is responsible for contributing and leading the ongoing development of clinical practice, standards of care within the service including the development of policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines, and undertake service developments in collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues. 16 Hours a week post. To act as a lead expert Occupational Therapist in the sensitive field of cancer and palliative care (predominantly Sarcoma, but to also include benign tumours and other metastatic bone tumours). Responsible for development of complex clinical case load within Orthopaedic Oncology, provide specialist, highly skilled assessment of patients. Develop specialist Occupational Therapy role/service for the management and treatment of Orthopaedic Oncology patients in an inpatient and outpatient setting including pre-operative planning and facilitating complex discharges. To act as the sole Occupational Therapist for the MSK Tumour team but work alongside the Specialist Physiotherapist to provide a comprehensive seamless therapy service in the in-patient setting. To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including management of patients in your care. To ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management and support other staff to do likewise. To assess and prepare patients for upcoming major surgery in a dedicated pre-operative clinic both physically and mentally to meet their post-operative needs and facilitate safe and effective discharge. To undertake a comprehensive assessment of patients, including those with a complex presentation, using investigative and analytical skills tailored and specific to formulate individualised treatment plans, using evidence-based practice, advanced clinical reasoning and a wide range of treatment skills/options. To accept clinical responsibility, as an autonomous practitioner, for a designated caseload of patients and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regards to clinical priorities and use of time both in an outpatient and inpatient setting. To represent the occupational therapy service and/or individual patients at the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings or ward rounds, to ensure the delivery of a coordinated multidisciplinary service and integrate occupational therapy treatment into the overall treatment programme. To maintain accurate, comprehensive and up-to-date treatment records for your patients, in line with legal (BAOT) and departmental requirements and communicate assessment and treatment results to the appropriate disciplines in the form of reports or letters when appropriate. To work with Trust clinical guidelines and BAOT guidelines and to have a good working knowledge of national and local standards and monitor own and others quality of practice as appropriate. Qualifications/Training

Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent Member of BAOT/RCOT or equivalent HCPC registration Postgraduate Masters level modules in relevant subject to this post or equivalent knowledge and skills accumulated through formal training and experiential learning Experience

Significant experience at a specialist level in relevant specialties/disciplines. e.g. Orthopaedics/Oncology Broad rotational experience incl. General Medicine and Trauma & Orthopaedics Evidence of advanced level of clinical work Experience of teaching to a range of professional staff Supervision of Therapy Support Workers and/or Students Multidisciplinary team working Skills and Competencies

Able to present information, written and orally in a clear and logical manner Presentation skills Understanding of clinical governance and its implications eg quality, audit Knowledge

Evidence of continuous personal and professional development Specialist knowledge of occupational therapy practice Evidence of Leadership Evidence of Teaching Awareness of Clinical Governance Experience of risk assessment Research and/or clinical audit Disclosure and Barring Service Check
