An exciting opportunity has arisen for highly motivated, enthusiastic and dynamic pharmacists to join our team of pharmacists and medicines management technicians across the medical departments at Friarage Hospital.

This is a challenging and dynamic role that will allow successful applicants to strengthen their clinical knowledge and expertise, whilst also enhancing their consultation and assessment skills. Additionally, you will also be able to develop your negotiation, influencing, leadership and management skills. In doing so, you will be required to: Act as a positive role model for medicines management and medicines optimisation for pharmacy colleagues and other health care professionals, Utilise transcribing or prescribing skills effectively to enhance patient care and patient safety, Continually monitor performance and productivity, developing and piloting new ways of working to improve efficiency and patient outcomes, Be involved in the preparation of policies and procedures, Be involved in risk reporting and management, Provide relevant and up to date education and training to pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals.

Main duties of the job

The pharmacy department at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will be dedicated to your development, supporting you in your new role with various internal and external educational opportunities available to help you further develop both your clinical and professional skills. The department hosts over 180 members of staff across both sites and provides a stimulating, friendly, and professionally rewarding environment for staff to develop their clinical expertise and professionalism.

The successful candidate will work full time hours 8.30am-5pm Monday - Friday, and will also be included in extended hours, weekend and on-call rotas, which are currently:

1 day weekend working once every 5 weeks (reimbursed with a weekday off the following week), On call duties on a rolling rota basis, approximately 1 in 40.

South Tees NHS Foundation Trust is situated in the Tees Valley just a step away from the North Yorkshire Moors and coast and is well connected nationally and regionally by road, rail and air. Hospital services are provided from two main sites, the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough and the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton. The James Cook University Hospital is designated as a Major Trauma Centre and as a Tertiary Care centre.

Leadership and Improvement Training

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers leadership and improvement training to all new staff to the Trust. Person Specification

Qualification

Essential

Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council. Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent relevant postgraduate clinical qualification (or actively working towards). Evidence of CPD and ongoing education. Masters Degree in Pharmacy or Equivalent.

Desirable

Independent Prescribing or working towards. Membership with RPS. Working towards RPS advanced clinical practice framework. Pharmacist Independent Prescribing Accreditation (or actively working towards).

Experience

Essential

Wealth of experience in clinical pharmacy within a hospital setting. Experience of providing directorate level pharmacist services e.g. budgetary reports, drug usage reviews. Developments of protocols and policies. Experience of developing strong professional relationships with other healthcare professionals. Experience of leading and contributing to relevant research, audit and service improvement projects. Experience of involvement in multidisciplinary service development.

Desirable

Staff leadership and management experience. Experience in mentorship and training for other staff. Teaching experience in clinical and classroom setting.

Personal Attributes

Essential

Effective team work. Exceptional communication. Positively respond and adapt to change. Analytical, judgmental and problem solving. Computer literate with ability to use Microsoft Office programs. Role model and leadership (including supervision of staff).

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

Ability to apply theoretical knowledge to clinical practice. Involvement in development of evidence-based clinical guidelines, policies and protocols. Strong knowledge of medicines information resources.

Desirable

Membership of regional/national/international specialist interest groups relevant to field of practice.
