An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our experienced team of specialist physiotherapists within our Integrated Stroke Therapy Team, on a fixed term / secondment basis. The successful candidate will be part of a large, busy acute and rehabilitation stroke service located in the Primary Stroke Centre at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, conscientious and flexible team player with excellent communication skills. Experience of neuro rehabilitation and working within an integrated stroke team is essential. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an adaptable approach to an ever changing complex environment whilst meeting national stroke guidelines and stroke standards.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to work within a multi-disciplinary team providing specialist complex clinical assessments, physiotherapy treatment and advice to patients with complex neurological needs. You will also be expected to have excellent communication skills using a variety of media to discuss needs and progress with patients and relatives.

You will be responsible for managing a clinical caseload, including those with highly complex needs and will supervise and support the band 5 therapists with caseload management. You will ensure patients are prioritised and managed appropriately and timely discharge plans are made by liaising closely with the wider team and other agencies.

Job responsibilities

You will be given the opportunity to develop your clinical skills through the delivery of a wide range of evidence based treatments and a robust in service training programme. You will also have the opportunity to work within our specialist team on the hyper-acute/acute and rehabilitation wards. You will also be expected to mentor and support band 5 and physiotherapy assistants and have an active role in service review and development.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salaryIn addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.

Person Specification

Education & Qualifications

Essential

Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy State Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council. Evidence of continual professional development.

Desirable

Evidence of CPD postgraduate learning related to Stroke and Long Term Health Conditions Clinical Educator's Course. Involvement with A.C.P.I.N

Knowledge

Essential

Knowledge of current best practice in physical and psychological interventions in Stroke and neurological conditions Knowledge and application of standardised assessments. Understanding of therapy outcome measures. Computer literacy. Knowledge of Nice Guidance and current practice. Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance since its application. Knowledge of intermediate care and community/support services. Knowledge of discharge planning processes. Up to date in professional practice and new research.

Experience

Essential

Previous experience as a Band 5 Physiotherapist Experience working with conditions with complex symptom presentation Experience working with individuals with Heath Long Term Conditions Experience supporting junior staff, support staff and /or students. Post registration experience in a stroke clinical setting

Desirable

Experience of working as part of a Multidisciplinary team. Experience of research or audit.
