The team consists of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Clinical Psychologists, Support Workers, and Administrative staff.

We are looking for a dynamic Speech and Language Therapist who has experience working with adults with neurological conditions who may have communication and/or swallowing disorders. You will join a friendly and enthusiastic team, providing specialist Speech and Language Therapy input to adults in outpatient settings and their own homes.

The post is suitable for a therapist with experience of working with people with neurological disorders (including stroke) who has not yet worked in a specialist neurological service. We provide regular supervision and will support you to develop your specialist skills.

The post is based in Shrewsbury but there may be potential to work from other SCHT bases within the county.

You will work alongside the Clinical Lead Speech and Language Therapist to provide treatment to clients in individual and group settings. You will be responsible for your own clinical caseload and for designing programmes to be delivered by support workers and caregivers as part of your clients’ rehabilitation.

As part of this role you will: Provide specialist assessment and management for people with acquired brain injuries and progressive neurological conditions, working with the multi-disciplinary team and other local agencies including families, caregivers, local authority services, and third sector organisations. Provide specialist management for people with communication difficulties including aphasia, motor speech disorders, and cognitive communication difficulties. This will include conversation partner training, developing compensatory strategies, developing self-advocacy skills, and impairment-based therapy. Contribute to developing new ways of working, alongside the Clinical Lead SLT. For example, further developing telehealth programmes. Provide specialist assessment and management for people with dysphagia, including designing and delivering rehabilitation programmes. Support the MDT to work effectively with people with communication difficulties including joint sessions and delivering training. Work in an interdisciplinary context considering a client’s holistic needs and contributing to their overall rehabilitation.

Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust provides community-based health services for adults and children in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, and some services in surrounding areas too.
